Notes
Terra Haute, Vigo County, Indiana1909The obituary of Peyton's brother Reuben says Peyton was living in Terra Haute, Indiana in July 1909. I haven't seen any other indication of this and I don't know if it is true.9
About 1884, he fell while he was working on a building and never fully recovered. His obituary seems to imply that his death 30 years later was related to this injury, but his death certificate gives his cause of death as accidental carbolic acid poisoning. (At the time, carbolic acid was used as an antiseptic, so in Peyton's case, its use might actually have been related to an earlier injury. It was also widely used to commit suicide.)5,4
