CLARA ROUSSEAU'S BIBLE - 1895

Clara Zenor Rousseau was living in Hennepin, Illinois, in 1895 when she bought and used this Bible. She was a very deeply religious young woman, and taught Sunday School for wee ones in her home church. In 1899 her Father, Mother and brothers and sisters moved from Illinois to Aldine, Harris County, Texas, where she met her future husband, S. Ernest Canfield. While living in Texas, Clara developed malaria and the disease settled in her eyes, causing damage to her optic nerves, which led to her total blindness. Because of her disability, she soon could no longer read, consequently this Bible is in very good condition, and while it holds no genealogical records, being a "Teacher's Bible", it did have some interesting papers and memorabilia tucked within its pages.
