"COLUMN ONE"
By Mary Mayo, Editor

From "The Jenks Journal," Thursday, December 21, 1961

The Jenks Board of Trustees met December 4 at which time they asked me to deliver a special message to the people of Jenks.

It's the kind of message I can really relish delivering, especially when I can sneak in my own embellishments and commentary, so here goes . . . . .

From Mayor T. E. Donaldson and Members Earl Burden and Clyde Francisco, whose duties only start around the counsel table and who make a consistent and sincere effort to accomplish the things they feel the people of Jenks want done but who, fortunately, expect no praise or show of gratitude for they seldom, if ever, receive one . . . . .

From Town Marshall Vernon Hunter (who refused to use this occasion to preach, moralize or admonish) and genial Water Commissioner Ralph Raper . . . . .

And from all their hardly-ever appreciated wives, Merle Donaldson, Loral Burden, Clara Fransisco, Velta Hunter and Norma Raper who drop what they are doing a dozen times a day and evening to take their husbands' telephone calls . . . . .

From the town's wise and fair-minded Justice of the Peace A. L. Gregg and Attorney James G. Davidson who keep an alert ear attuned to the legal tones of the town's ticker . . . . .

From those fine and brave fellows:
Raymond Jordan, Fire Chief
Bob Blevins, Fire Department Clerk
Raymond Weese
Lonnie Weese
Charlie Weese
Billy Heinen
Raymond Moore
Ray Bowlen
N. R. Price
Louie Bradley
Robert Dobbs
Junior Ramey, and once again,
Ralph Raper, Assistant Fire Chief, and
Vernon Hunter

all of whom will make a dash for the firetrucks at the wail of the siren whether it be Christmas Eve, Christmas morning or Christmas dinner, and whether the cause is St. Nick's pipe coming in too close contact with the beard on his chin as white as the snow, or whether you have overloaded you electrical circuits with too many tree lights and electrified Christmas doodads or whether you, in your eagerness to strip the wrappings from your pile of gifts and have momentarily forgotten the open heater behind you . . .

And last, but naturally not least, from the gals in the city government: Betty K. Roberts, Town Treasurer; Sue Wasson, Water Clerk; Betty Jordan, Fire Department Tresaurer; and Yours Truly, Town Clerk . . . . .

From every last one of us to every last one of you . . . . .

A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY, HAPPY NEW 1962!
