Albert Lee Mefford

Albert Lee Mefford went to meet Jesus, Thursday, June 30, 2005. He was born April 3, 1929 in Tulsa to T.S. "Sid" and Docia Mefford.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ralph and his son Patrick.

Albert attended schools in Chicago and Bowlegs, Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Kiefer where he lettered in football in 1947. He also attended the Oklahoma School of Business and took classes at TJC after retiring. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War as a Tech Sergeant and electrical systems jet instructor.

Albert married Betty Jean Lee, Oct. 19, 1950, while in the Air Force and settled in Sapulpa after being discharged. He owned and operated Mefford's Phillips 66 on Dewey in the 50's and later learned to be a machinist. He retired from American Airlines as a journeyman machinist and crew chief.

After retiring, he and Betty worked CCD classes as volunteers in English and Spanish at Sacred Heart Church in Sapulpa.

He also owned and operated his own machine shop in Sapulpa where he manufactured precision parts for everything from helicopters to race cars to bear bows. An avid outdoorsman, Al loved fishing, hunting, camping, traveling and drawing.

Rosary will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sapulpa at 6 p.m., Sunday, July 3, 2005.

Funeral Mass will be at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005. Interment will follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens with Smith Funeral Home handling arrangements.

A.L. is survived by his wife of 55 years Betty, of the home; sister Ruby, of Chicago; children Mike and Jodi Mefford, of Tulsa, Mary and Kenny West, of Sapulpa, Becky Mefford, of Tulsa, Tom and Shirley Mefford, of Sapulpa, Pete and Lanette Mefford, of Bixby, John and Donna Mefford, of Kiefer; 20 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 11 nephews; 10 nieces and many great nephews and nieces.

Al knew where all of his family members were everyday and was very close to all of them. We will all miss him.
