DIANE GUISINGER MAXWELL

From "The Sapulpa Herald," Thursday, August 11, 2005

Sapulpa resident Diane Maxwell died Aug. 7, 2005, in Tulsa, Okla. after a long hospital stay.

Born Dec. 4, 1946 in Blackwell, Okla., Diane Guisinger grew up in Braman, Okla. where she confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at Braman Church of Christ in 1961.

She then moved with her family to South Haven, Kan., where she was graduated from high school in 1965. Diane realized her dream of becoming a registered nurse in 1967 when she received her associate of arts degree in nursing from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, Okla; and in 1971 she completed her bachelor of arts degree in business administration from Phillips University in Enid, Okla.

She worked as an RN in Enid and Fairfax, Okla., and in Kansas she worked in Wichita, Arkansas City and Winfield. She was director of nursing at Cedar View Nursing Home in Wellington, Kan., when she met her best friend Jeffrey Maxwell in 1981.

They married on May 26, 1984 at First Christian Church, South Haven, Kan. and celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary this spring in her hospital room.

They moved in February 1985 to Tulsa, Okla. where she had been hired at Hillcrest Medical Center. Two years later they bought a home and moved to Sapulpa. She worked at Hillcrest as a psych nurse in the new Eating Disorders Unit for seven years until it was closed, at which time she joined many of her co-workers who moved to the new High-risk Antipartum Unit, where she worked until August 2003 when she became disabled after serving as a registered nurse for 35 years.

In 2002, along with husband Jeffrey, she established in the Tulsa area a new and used medical uniform retail sales business called The Scrub Collection. She was guided by her love of nursing to provide low-cost used medical uniforms to nursing students and entry-level medical workers as a service to the medical community.

Her husband Jeffrey took over running the family enterprise in her time of illness, but Diane's original vision is still the focus of the business.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Sapulpa, where she enjoyed cooking with her group on Wednesdays. She also was graduated from Sapulpa Beauty College in 1993, completing all of the courses for the manicurist and cosmetologist programs just for the pleasure of it.

And all her friends knew of her love for angels, cookbooks, solitaire, mystery novels and many cats over the years, especially Miranda, Maggie, and Mrs. Beasley.

Surviving are her husband, Jeffrey Maxwell, of Sapulpa; mother Kathryn Guisinger, of South Haven, Kan.; sister Vickie Butler, of Sapulpa; sister Kenta Lou and husband David Whitley, of Wellington, Kan; nieces Leota and husband Duane DeGraffenreid, of Sapulpa, and Kathy and husband James Cooper, of Wellington, Kan; nephews Kenneth Ray Jantzen, of McPherson, Kan., Kenneth James Young of Arkansas City, Kan., and Jeremy Young of Wellington, Kan.; great-niece Shelby McLain of Wellington, Kan.; and great-nephews Jason McLain of Wellington, Kan. and Justin, Tyler and Kendall DeGraffenreid, of Sapulpa.

There will be two memorial services. The first service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 12 at First Christian Church, Sapulpa, Okla. at the corner of Lee and Elm (one block south of the Creek County Courthouse) with the Rev. Gary Sheely officiating. The second service will be held at 4 p.m. on the same day, Friday, Aug. 12 at Rose Hill Cemetery, South Haven, Kan. with the Rev. Danny Ginn of Oxford, Kan. Christian Church and Darrel Williams of First Christian Church, South Haven, Kan., officiating.

Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home, 1208 South Main, Sapulpa, Okla.
