A 13-year-old Creek County youth has died of wounds he received Saturday in a hunting accident.

Creek County deputies also released the name of an Olive area youth, 13, who suffered an accidental self-inflicted wound in the leg with a .22 caliber handgun, also on Sautrday, in an unrelated incident.

Creek County Deputy Sgt. Johnny O'Mara said Justin White of 18302 W. 71st St. died at St. Francis Hospital Saturday evening.

The deputy said the youth's body was taken to the medical examiner but he believed White died from the loss of blood and shock.

O'Mara said White and property owner Don Daughtery were hunting on the property at the West 71st St. residence and the youth was climbing down from a deer stand at the time of the accident.

"The boy had a .12-gage single-barrel shotgun loaded with a rifled slug," said O'Mara. "White accidentally dropped the gun and it discharged with the slug striking him in the leg."

The slug caused massive damage to the leg and the boy lost a lot of blood despite the efforts of Daughtery and another man to stem the massive bleeding.

O'Mara said Daughtery loaded the youth in his van (and) drove toward a county road to find help.

At that point, Robert Wilson happened to enter the driveway, and Daughtery used Wilson's cellular phone to call for help.

Together they arranged to meet a Creek County Ambulance (at the) intersection of West 81st Street and Hwy. 97.

Meanwhile, the two men attempted to implement a tourniquet to help stem the flow of blood, said O'Mara.

The boy later was transported by helicopter to St. Francis and died a short time after arriving at the hospital.

The deputy said White was a student at Keystone School. The Keystone district is located in Creek, Tulsa and Pawnee counties.

In the second shooting incident, O'Mara said Colt Weaver was taken to a Cushing hospital after suffering a gunshot wound in his leg.

O'Mara said Weaver was treated and then was able to leave the hospital under his own power.

The deputy said the accident occurred west of Olive.
