MARIE YVONNE BURZIO SIMMONS

Marie Yvonne Simmons, 95, left this life Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2005 for the place prepared for her.

Gone is all her pain and suffering and she is together again with Otis, her husband of 72 years, who passed away July 9, 2005 at the age of 98.

Marie was born June 17, 1910 in Skidmore, Kan. to John and Pauline Burzio and was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Survivors are a son, John D. Simmons and wife Mary Simmons, of Tulsa; grandson Scott Simmons and wife Suzanne Simmons; grandson Dr. Keith Simmons and wife Dr. Laurie Duckett Simmons; great grandsons, Dylan, Heath, Jacob and Sean Simmons; loving and caring neighbors Linda and Jim Slater and many nieces and nephews.

In the early 1900s, her parents came to this country from France and Italy.

Consequently, she was bilingual, not learning English until she was five-years-old. Many years later, she aided her grandsons when they studied French in high school.

Marie obtained her teaching certificate from East Central State College and taught school until her marriage to Otis Simmons July 15, 1933.

Together Marie and Otis owned and operated bakeries and restaurants in Okemah, Holdenville, Ada and Sapulpa where they operated the Redwood Manor Restaurant.

Marie was a loving and caring daughter, wife, mother and grandmother who valued family above all.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005 at the Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel, under the direction of Green Hill Funeral Home and Crematory located at 400 East Teel Road.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until the service Saturday, Dec. 31, 2005.
