TWO SEARCHES FOR AIRPLANES TURN UP BODIES

Twin searches for aircraft -- one piloted by a former Tulsa physician, the other carrying two Tulsa-area men returning home from a Utah air show -- have concluded with the finding of the wreckages and the men's bodies.

The body of Steven Clark, 45, was found at 2:45 p.m. Friday about 800 yards of Roscoe Turner Airfield in Cornith, Miss, where he had taken off about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to serve a two-day shift as an emergency room physician at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Ala.

The bodies of Phillip Cornelius, 47, of Kellyville, and Bob Sanco, 59, of Mounds, were found Saturday amid the scattered wreckage of a small airplane near Moriarity, N.M., three days after the home-built craft was reported missing.

"There wasn't much left of the plane -- mostly debris," said Sgt. Mark McCracken of the New Mexico State Police. "I'd say it was scattered over a couple hundred feet."

. . . . .

The bodies of Cornelius and Sanco were found in the wreckage of their single-engine aircraft, called a Long EZ, after being spotted by a Civil Air Patrol pilot, said Lt. Col Pat Norvell, a spokesman for the CAP's New Mexico wing.

NOTE: For more information about this airplane crash involving Bobby Gene Sanco and Phillip Cornelius, see the SANCO listing under the Jenks Obituaries pages.
