Franklin Cecil Smeltzer

Franklin Cecil Smeltzer, 86, died at his son's residence in Englewood, Tenn. on Thursday, April 18, 2002.

A native and lifetime resident of Sapulpa, he was the son of the late Homer Cecil and Myra Elizabeth Smeltzer and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sapulpa.

He was retired from Wicham Packing Company and operated Smeltzer Gardens five miles west of Sapulpa.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years Mary Margaret Smeltzer of Englewood, Tenn., two sons and daughter-in-laws, Dr. James and Naoma Smeltzer of Maryville, Mo. and Dr. Richard and Lina Smeltzer of Englewood, Tenn., one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Susan and Dr. Phillip Snyder of Houston, Texas, one brother and sister-in-law Marion and Mary Smeltzer of Sapulpa, six grandchildren, Lisa, Mark, Sherry, Dr. Christopher, Rev. Eric and John Smeltzer, seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, Griffin, Elizabeth and Kara Smeltzer, and Matthew and Andrew Barnes, two nephews and their wives, Dr. Dan and Linda Smeltzer and Gary and Linda Smeltzer.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church of Sapulpa. The Rev. Bill Gray and Rev. Mike Asher will be officiating.

Bertha Ann Smith

Bertha Ann Smith, of Sapulpa, died Sunday at the Hillcrest Medical Center at the age of 88. Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 27, 1916 in Springs, Colo. She was married to Walter R. Smith in 1955. She was a homemaker and had lived in Sapulpa most all of her life. She was a graduate of Beggs High School, a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and lifetime member of the United Methodist Women. She loved arts and crafts and sewing.

Bertha had worked for Katz and Chastains.

She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers Loren, Ed, Walter, Neal, Robert Lee and Bob Coats.

Survivors are her husband Walter Smith, of the home; sisters Dessie Bradley, of Sapulpa, LaVerne Coats, of Tulsa, Margaret Creekmore, of Tulsa, and Jack and JoAnn Coats, of Houston, Texas; niece Joanie Mullins; great-nieces Erin and Brenna Mullins; sister-in-law Eulalah Robertson and husband Charlie, of Sapulpa; and other nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smith have been set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Asher officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Creighton Smith

Creighton Smith, of Mounds, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at the age of 78. He was born June 5, 1926 at Cromwell.

He was a retired oil field worker and a Baptist. Creighton served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the U.S. Navy after the war.

He is survived by Brenda Fields, of Mounds; daughter, Carla Fisher, of Sapulpa; grandchildren Angela and Michal Stevens, Samuel and Melissa Washington, Kelly Washington and Creighton Washington; great-grandchildren Summer, Sam Jr., Cheyenne and Carle.

Della Lee Smith

Della Lee Smith, 83, passed away in her home on Friday, Dec. 31, 2004. She was a resident for five years of Hickory Retirement Apartments.

She was born Nov, 18, 1921 at Brush Hill. Her parents were Eura Park Mercer and Eli Mercer.

She retired from Rockwell Industries. She had also worked for Bartlett Collins in the decorating department and for Bartlett Hospital.

She is survived by brothers Sam Mercer, of Borger, Texas, and Bo Mercer, of Tupelo, Miss.; sisters Bernice Barrett, of Durant, and Liz Holt, of Oklahoma City; daughter Joan Charboneau and husband Lawrence; grandchildren Joni Smith and husband Gary, Keith Charboneau and wife Cathy, all of Sapulpa, and Christine Haulcomb, of Bristow; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Kay Mercer; son Leo Smith; and grandson Kris Charboneau.

We love you Mom and will miss you. We know there is a great reunion going on now in heaven with your loved ones that have gone on before you.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2005, at the Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Bill Oldham officiating. Interment will be in South Heights Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Don E. Smith died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 63.

He was born Feb. 13, 1938 in Sapulpa. He was Creek County Director of the Department of Human Services.

He was a graduate of Sapulpa High School and the University of Tulsa. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by wife, Jacquetta, of the home; a son, Eric Smith, and his wife, Jennifer, of Glenpool; and daughter, Kasha Smith of Amarillo, Texas; two grandchildren, Seth and Heather Smith; his father, Cleo Smith of Sapulpa; two sisters and their spouses, Catherine and Joe Sawyer and Daen and Tom Reynolds of Sapulpa.

He was preceded in death by mother, Vera Smith; two sisters, Verma Dobson and Wanda Prichard; and a brother, Kenneth Davenport.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002 at the First Church of the Nazarene with Dr. Jim Nash officiating. Interment will be in South Heights Cemetery under direction of the Smith Funeral Home.

LONGTIME DHS DIRECTOR REMEMBERED IN TRIBUTE
From Staff Reports

A long time Creek County DHS manager was remembered Thursday at a presentation ceremony.

Friends, coworkers and family of Don Smith gathered at a memorial tribute. Smith died of cancer Jan. 16, 2002.

DHS employees said they admired and respected their long-time boss and collectively wanted to pay tribute to his memory.

Together the employees commissioned local artist Jim Branscum to create a memorial to the former Creek County DHS Director.

The completed artwork was presented in a special ceremony at the gazebo in front of the DHS building.

DHS Area Director Steve Scott read a eulogy puslished shortly after Smith's death.

Smith had been with DHS for 38 years, serving the last 21 as Creek County director.

The event was attended by members of Smith's family, including his wife, Jaqueta Smith, son Eric and sisters Dean Reynolds and Katherine Sawyer. Also in attendance were numerous friends and local dignitaries.

Following the presentation ceremony, a reception and open house was held at the DHS office.

The artwork now hangs in the main lobby of the DHS office and is available for public viewing.

Ben was a 1944 Sapulpa High School graduate and in 1950 received his Education Degree from Oklahoma A&M. Following college he went to work for American Airlines where he celebrated his love of airplanes with 40 years of service until retirement in 1991. Ben was an avid bass fisherman and a charter member of Green Country Bass Masters. He did tournament fishing until in his 70's. He also enjoyed traveling around the world with his loving wife, Ramona. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Ramona Smith; 2 daughters, Susan Smith and husband, Ron, Dallas Judd and husband, Mike; and 3 grandchildren, Tyler and Haylee Smith and Austin Judd. Ben was Austin's special "Pa." Ben, we love you and we will miss your smile and loving gentleness. SMITH -- Lulu Belle, age 100, of Sand Springs, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on June 28, 2003 with her loving family by her side. She was born to George and Jenny Lee Williams on December 9, 1902 in Selma, AL. The family moved to Bristow, OK when she was a small child. During the summers of her high school years she attended college at Edmond, OK. She graduated from Bristow High School in 1918 and that fall she moved to Bowden, OK to teach grades 1 through 8. She met her husband, Sherman, in Bowden when he returned from WWI. After they were married she obtained her BA from Central State Teachers' College in Edmond and her Master's degree from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She taught school from 1934 until she retired in 1969. Twenty-five of those years she taught home economics in Sand Springs, OK. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Sand Springs, KAPPA KAPPA IOTA, Sand Springs Women's Club and the American Legion. She did many beautiful oil paintings that grace many of her friend's homes and her church. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ulysses Sherman Smith; and daughter, Mary Sue Johns. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Ben Smith of Tulsa; son-in-law, Arthur J. Johns of Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Susan J. Smith and husband, Ron of Owasso, OK, Joyce Goodall and husband, Randy of Austin, TX, Craig Johns of Sacramento, CA and Kevin Johns of Kissimmee, FL; step-granddaughter, Dallas Judd and husband, Mike of Broken Arrow, OK; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-grandson. Lulu was fortunate to have several loving friends including Susan Huneryager and Melvene Perry. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2003 at the Mobley-Dodson Funeral Chapel in Sand Springs under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service, 245-6644.

MICHIEAL R. SMITH

Michieal R. Smith, of Sapulpa, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003 at the St. John Medical Center at the age of 55. Michieal was born May 26, 1948 in Tulsa and had lived in Sapulpa all of his life.

He was married to Karen Major on April 14, 1972 in Tulsa. He was employed for the Bartlett Collins Glass Company as an electrician. He had worked for Bartlett-Collins for 21 years.

He graduated Sapulpa High School in 1966. He was a docent for the Oklahoma Aquarium and loved computers and science fiction. He was an avid Star Trek fan.

Michieal was preceded in death by his father, George Smith; grandparents Charlie and Lydia Smith and Henry and Maggie McCrackin.

Funeral services for Michieal have been set for 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003 in the Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Scott Hamilton officiating.

Interment will follow in the Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers will be Terry Stepples, Dale Roberts, Ronnie Cleveland, Calvin Tatum, Terry Culver and Terry Harper. Honorary bearers will be James Lang, Bil Major, David Major, Matt Major and Mike Hanley. Friends who wish may make a donation to the Oklahoma Aquarium in lieu of flowers.

Ozelle Smith

Ozelle Smith, 87, died Saturday, April 27, 2002. She was born Dec. 4, 1914 in Dibble.

She moved to Sapulpa in 1952 when she and her late husband, Wesley L. Smith, established the Smith Funeral Home. She retired in 1975.

She had been a member of the First Christian Church since 1952 and was a member of the Rose Unit of Sapulpa Garden Clubs.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wesley L. Smith and a grandson, Bret Cosby.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Leona Lee and Denny Tyler of Sapulpa and Beverly Ann and Lee Cosby of Grove; eight grandchildren, Denise Collins, Tammy Allen, Tim Tyler, Cindy Wellman, Derrick Tyler, Catherine deCamp, Jim Cosby, and Gina Howard; 30 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren, and special nephew Bill Irons of Mooresville, N.C.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2002 in the Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Russell Casey and Jamie Allen officiating.

Interment will follow in South Heights Cemetery under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers will be Tim Tyler, Derrick, Tyler, Jim Cosby, Kim Howard, John Bryan deCamp, and Tom Collins.

Honorary bearers will be Glenn T. Young, Jack McKenzie, Ken Holloway and Hank May.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.

Richard Aaron Smith

Richard Aaron Smith passed from thie Earth at the age of 75 and went to his heavenly home early Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005.

After his retirement from American Airlines, where he worked as a mechanic, he enjoyed fishing and drinking coffee and telling fish tales at the barber shop every morning.

Richard served during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Helena and will be buried with military honors. Richard married Belle Southerland in Sand Springs in 1950. In this 54 years of marriage, they were blessd with three children, Ricky, Randy and Vonda.

He is survived by his wife, Belle; son Randy Smith and his wife Sandy, of Mounds; daughter Vonda Arnell and her husband David, of Bristow; grandchildren Stan Smith, Jamie Rovang and her husband David, Holly Price and Russell Arnell; great-grandchildren Justin and Caleb Rovang, Chance, Bailey and Mason Smith.

Richard is preceded in death by his son, Ricky Wade Smith, who died at the age of 13.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at June Rose Assembly of God, 171st and South Hickory in Sapulpa. Interment will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Sand Springs.

The family wants to extend special thanks to St. Francis Hospice for the loving care they provided to Richard and family.

Funeral services will be under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Roy Lester Smith, of Drumright, died Saturday, June 14, at the age of 72.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 8, 1930 in Drumright and was a retired truck driver.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, was an avid fisherman and gardener and loved to go camping and help with benefit fish frys.

WILLIAM M. SMITH

William M. Smith, 89, of Sapulpa, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2003 at his retirement home in the Piney Creek addition of Lake Eufaula.

Mr. Smith was born Aug. 17, 1914 in Noel, Mo. and had lived in Sapulpa more than 20 years. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Pentecostal religion. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.

Survivors are his wife, Miles, of the home; daughter Faye Vrigance, of Sapulpa; granddaughter Kimberly Berryhill; great-grandchildren Shelby Berryhill, Country Berryhill and Dyllon Fain; two brothers and one nephew.

Funeral services for Mr. Smith have been set for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003 in The Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Glen Hood officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Veterans Feature in Green Hill Memorial Gardens.

Lillian Dell "Farris" Smithee, of Sapulpa, died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at the Continuous Care Center at St. John Sapulpa. Lillian was 80 years old. She was born Jan. 19, 1924 in Stone County, Ark. and had lived in Sapulpa since 1958.

She was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Mason High School in 1943. She had worked for Bartlett Memorial Medical Center and the Family Medical Clinic for 34 years.

Survivors are her children Carolyn Holder and husband Bob, of Broken Arrow, Kenny Smithee and wife Patti, of Tulsa, and Marilyn Smithee, of Sapulpa; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren but most of all the loved the Lord.

Funeral services have been set for 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2004 in the Smith Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Kern officiating. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. in Highland Park in Okemah.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, 2004.

HERBERT PORTER SNIDER

Herbert Porter Snider was born on Nov. 22, 1913 at Eufaula, the son of E.H. and Marzella Snider.

He was one of five children including Neal, Merton and Mary Kay, of Sapulpa, and Faye Montgomery, of California.

His parents and all siblings preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley Ruth, of Sapulpa, and daughter Norma Jean and son-in-law Jim Wilson, of Drumright.

Grandchildren include Dennis Ruth and Lynn Reed, of Sapulpa, David Wilson, of New York City, Diane Edwards, of Stillwater, and Kathy Jean Sternke, of Broken Arrow. Great grandchildren include Shaunna Buford, Ryan Ruth, Chris Ruth, Lynna Hodge, Chelsea Shriver, Gary Ruth and Taylor and Hunter Edwards. He had one great-great-grandson, Calem Ruth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Porter Snider married Roberteen (Jane) Reed on October 30, 1948 in Sapulpa. Roberteen preceded him in death in 1989.

Porter was a Navy veteran of World War II where he served on the aircraft carrier the USS Hancock. The men of the USS Hancock received a special commendation for "outstanding heroism displayed in action against enemy forces in the Pacific War Area."

He was also a 32nd degree Mason at Sapulpa Lodge No. 170. Porter was an avid bowler and had won medals in the Senior Olympics as well as many bowling trophies over the years. He loved to fish and hunt. He was a carpenter by trade and loved wood-working. Many people are blseedw with some of the creations which he made every year for the annual Christmas party.

H.P. died of lung cancer on Sunday, June 8, 2003, at his home near Sapulpa. His body was creamted as per his wishes. A memorial service will be hald at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2003 at the Smith Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Glen Hood will officiate.

In lieu of other remembrance the family suggest that donations be made to Grace Hospice.
