JOHN WINSTON SEAGO

From "The Sapulpa Herald," Friday, February 4, 2005

John Winston Seago was born March 27, 1942 to Roma and A.G. Seago in the old Seago farm house in Liberty Mounds. He passed from this life Jan. 28, 2005.

J.W. graduated from Liberty Mounds High School in 1960. He attended Conners State College in Warner, Southeastern State College in Durant and the University of Tulsa.

J.W. was a "Jack of all trades," and was employed in various settings throughout his life. He was employed with Rockwell International and McDonald Douglas as an aircraft mechanic for several years. He was most recently employed as a truck driver until his health problems made it impossible for him to continue.

J.W. was an accomplished musician. He took piano lessons for several years as a child and enjoyed composing and playing piano tremendously. He also enjoyed playing several other instruments including the guitar and the harmonica. Even though he struggled with hearing loss, he had an amazing ability to hear the music and play it on his own without the assistance of sheet music. He sometimes tired of everyone "begging" him to play for our enjoyment, but would usually accomodate.

J.W. was an avid reader of books -- mostly for informational purposes. Once he decided to research something, he did not stop until he knew everything there was to know about the subject. He had been collecting genealogy records on the Seago family for years and was able to trace the family all the way back to England. His ability to gather and retain information always astounded everyone around him. He could make history fascinating to those who were not even insterested before listening to him. He could explain a carpentry, mechanical or plumbing procedure so well that almost anyone could perform it. J.W. had a brilliant mind, and his adeptness to understand the "workings" of such a variety of things was truly amazing.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roma and A.G. Seago.

He is survived by his wife Elaine Cumbey Seago, of Liberty Mounds; son Aaron and wife Regina, of Sachsenkam, Germany; and daughter Anita Seago Hall and husband Scott Hall, of Bixby.

Also surviving him are grandchildren Nicolas Seago, of Sachsenkam, Germany, and Shaunee, Will, Pacey, Anika and Owen Hall, of Bixby.

Other survivors include his brother Roger (and MaryAnn) Seago and family; Debbie Seago Gilliland and Jeff, Christopher and Jennifer; Denise Seago Baker and Chris and April Grooms; Donna Seago Sides and Jerry and Bradley Sides; Roger Alan II and Brenda Seaso and son Jerrod, of Liberty Mounds; Roger Alan II, of Bixby; brother Don (and Anna Lea) Seago, of Surprise, Ariz. and family; Donald A. II and Dianne Seago, Samantha and Don III; and a special Seago cousin and friend Doris Seago Newborn, of Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Also surviving are father-in-law and mother-in-law June and Ivis Cumbey, of Mounds; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Greg and Pat Cumbey, of Wheaton, Ill. Stephen and Etta Cumbey, of Muskogee, Lyna and Jerry Collins of Mount Vernon, Ill., Kathy and Roger Jones, of Mounds; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to St. Francis Hospice (especially to Shella, for her care and support during J.W.'s illnesses).
