SYLVESTER -- Vance Russell, who served as Mayor of Oilton for 22 years, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005. He was 87. Sylvester was born February 24, 1918, in Pottawatomie County and moved to Oilton with his family when he was 5. He served in the Army Air Corps and was a decorated combat Veteran in World War II. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Zoe; his brother, Robert Sylvester of Ponca City, and his 3 daughters, Janet Couch of Dallas, and Sherry Ramsey and Pamela Kiel, both of San Antonio; 4 grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Service is 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2005, at First Baptist Church, Oilton, with interment at Highland Cemetery, Oilton. Palmer & Marler Funeral Home, (918) 862-3600.
