BATMAN FAMILY REUNION

"OVER 58 BATMAN COUSINS GATHER FOR REUNION"

From "The Mannford Eagle," Mannford, Oklahoma, May 20, 1987

Norman and Martha Swezey, 113 Lakeview Drive, were hosts last weekend for the Batman reunion.

Descendants of Lafayette and Sarah Batman, who were born in 1846 ranged in age from four month old Matthew Swezey - great-great-grandson - to 87-year-old Beulah Wolff - granddaughter.

Highlights of the weekend were talking over old times and working on the family tree, but the group enjoyed the "Ole Fashioned Harvest Festival" Saturday evening, where the attire was long dresses, bonnets and overalls.

After the husking bee, the corn was run through the sheller, ground into corn meal for the mush and cornbread. The apples were peeled on Grandma's apple peeler for the applesauce. The coffee beans had to be ground before the coffee was brewed and the cream churned into butter for the homemade bread. Homemade ice cream topped the cobbler.

Other activities included horseshoes, washer pitch, kite making, ball games, plus the group enjoyed a tour of the coves up Salt Creek on pontoon boats to explore the "Outlaw Caves" Saturday afternoon.

Entertainment Saturday evening included a Hammered Dulcimer concert by Carolyn Gregor on the instrument made by her brother-in-law, Norman Swezey. Larry Dosser gave the devotional at the Sunday worship service assisted by Rev. Paul Batman.

Guests included Justin and June Wright and Frank of Billings; Harold and Ruth Swezey, Barbara Handley, Ronald Lee and Inez Fisher, Ted Jones and Steffanie, all of Enid; Hazel Rockwell, Ringwood; Paul and Vivian Batman of Kansas City; Elmer and Ruby Boman of Zapata, Texas, Edith and Mary Scott of Salina, Kansas; and Elvin and Martha Adee of Wells, Kansas.
