CARGILL REUNION 1987

"OAK GROVE NEWS"
By Helen Linduff

From the "News Journal," Mannford, Oklahoma, June 24, 1987

A very pretty, warm Tuesday morning and I'm late as usual. I think I need a keeper!

The 14th Annual Cargill Family Reunion was held at Oak Grove on Saturday, June 13. There was a covered dish dinner followed with an afternoon of visiting, reminiscing, picture taking and trying to place the little ones to the family they belong to.

Those attending were: Edward & Gladys Shultz; Jenna Cargill, her daughter & grandson, Nadine and Aaron Grisby from Ponca City; Pete & Lucille Cargill; Jerome & Thelma Cargill; Opal & Bill Perry; Floyd & Jean Sorrels and little granddaughter, Jessica Brown; Helen Linduff; Orion & Beulah Cargill; Lonnie, Ernestine, Steve, Amber & Chris Cargill; Larry, Judy & Daniel Cargill, all of Oak Grove.

Richard & Michelle Plantz; Thelma Ford; Mary Walker; Ronnie Walker; Janell & Cheryl Walker; Anisty Geyer of Stroud; Gertrude & Janice Winkler of Tulsa; Roger & Shelley Harris of Stroud; Bill & Chloe O'Kelley of Cushing; Dan, Sharon, Crystal Leigh & Lance Green of Jennings; Norma Jean Haxton; Edna Haxton & Matthew, Monique Haxton; Tysa & Jacinta Haxton; Paula, Matt & Erin Strollings, Judy & Dennis of Yale; Bob, Linda, Tanya & Scott Wilson of Owasso; Susan Perry of Los Angeles, Ca.; and Blake Perry from Oklahoma City.

I almost missed this occasion. I had gone to the Nursing Home for a little visit and ran some errands. When I returned, Mike said, 'Grandpa called and wanted to know if I was coming'. Isn't that awful, forget your own family reunion held less than 2 miles away? Hey you guys, it was an honest mistake. I thought they decided last year to have the Cargill reunion every other year. The only mention of it to me was a couple of weeks ago, Gloria Curry asked me if it wasn't getting close to the annual reunion date and I told her that I thought they had decided to have it every other year. Therefore, Richard & Gloria did not attend. Sorry Gloria! I hope my mis-information was not the reason for your absence.

Richard is one of the Cargill clan. His mom, Nora Curry was a Cargill. Oh my! I jused looked over the list and discovered that I had omitted a couple of my favorite little guys. Justin Cargill and Jason Faires. Sorry Fellows!

Jessica Brown of Dallas, Tx. is spending a part of her summer vacation here visiting her grandparents, Floyd and Jean Sorrels and her great-grandfather, Bob Davis.

Week-end visitors at the Bill & Opal Perry home were their daughter, Susan Perry of Los Angeles, Ca. and their son Blake from OKC. They came to attend the Cargill reunion. Susan came the greatest distance to attend the reunion and it was my first time to meet her. She is a very nice person.

Also, I enjoyed visiting with Nadine (Cargill) Frisby from Ponca City. Nadine, a former Oak Grove girl & neighbor, doesn't come around much anymore. But, my short visit with her let me know quickly that she hasn't changed much. In describing the condition of her house at present time she said, 'I'd love to have you come see me, but I'm warning you, my house looks like downtown Beruit!'
