Leonard Choyne Shelton was born in Welty, OK, on May 14, 1924 to the parents of Otis and Maude Shelton.

Leonard attended several school systems in Oklahoma; however, he received most of his education at Shamrock schools.

Leonard was drafted in 1943. He spent 6 weeks basic training at Ft. Sill and then on to Maryland for more training. Then, Leonard received an all expense paid trip to Europe for the next two years. Leonard had been trained for the Normandy Invasion at Omaha Beach, France. During his WWII tour, Leonard was awarded a bronze star. Leonard's tour duty took him through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and Luxumberg.

On Sept. 27, 1948, Mr. E. L. Layman hired Leonard as a roustabout for Tidewater Oil Co. Leonard transfered to Hominy in 1949. He worked in the Wynona, Pawhuska, 3 Sands area as a pulling unit operator until 1952. At this time, Leonard was transfered to the Kiefer area and worked on the leases that his son, Ron, now works on. Between the years of 1948 thru 1961, Leonard worked in the gang as a rousabout, derrickman, pumper and truck driver. Leonard bid on a job as a Gangpusher in the Cushing area and has completed 37 years of service here.

Leonard and Helen Mae Williams were married on January 15, 1949. They have 3 sons: Gary Lynn, Steven Wade, and Ronald Keith.

All three boys grew up in Drumright and attended school here. From their marriages, Helen and Leonard have 5 grandchildren.

Leonard plans to retire around the house. He intends to spend alot of time on the golf course. His travel plans include as many trips to Las Vegas as possible. However, he says he has had enough Honey Do jobs to last the next 25 years.
