From "The Mannford Eagle, Silver Edition," Mannford, Oklahoma, May 27, 1987

The postoffice in the Pawnee County community of the Basin was established May 5, 1899, with Joe Mitchell the postmaster. On June 30, 1906 it was discontinued, with residents going into Mannford to get their mail. The first rural free delivery route established from Mannford went to the Basin area and began in April, 1907, with John Nash as the mail carrier. He later served as town postmaster from March 20, 1912 to June 26, 1914, when he was succeeded by Ella M. Boyd (Devashar).
