LESS PURSELL

"LESS PURSELL'S BEST BRONC"

From "The Mannford Eagle, Silver Edition," Mannford, Oklahoma, May 27, 1987

At this time, Mr. Pursell had been raising rodeo stock on his place south of the old town for the past 30 years. He was the first to put Jim Shoulders, then 16, on his first bronc. This happened in Oilton and Shoulders won $16.

A 1960 New Mannford News article quotes the late Less Pursell as saying that the best bronc he ever had "was an old mare work horse which a farmer had been plowing with for years. She looked so tired that you'd think she couldn't get one foot off the ground. But I found out she didn't like being rode and I used her for 6 seasons and nobody was ever able to stay on her."
