You know your life lives on here after you are gone.

Granny Harris lived to be a 100 years old, was a minister and lived by herself after her husband passed away. She was blind and burnt wood. She wouldn't go to the nursing home. She said the Lord would take care of her and her neighbors said, 'He did.' I visited one of her neighbors this week and saw her picture. She had lots of friends that took her flowers and food. Our real happiness comes when we help others.

ELMER JOE AND MARY HELLARD
From "The Mannford Eagle," Mannford, Oklahoma, August 26, 1987

"COUPLE'S DEATH RULED AS HOMICIDE-SUICIDE"

A Blue Bell-area husband and wife were allegedly victims of a homicide-suicide last Wednesday morning at their home.

Mary Hellard, 66, and Elmer Joe Hellard, 67, were found by their son shot to death in their Route 1 residence abut 8 a.m., according to Camelia Denton, Creek County undersheriff. Mrs. Hellard was found near the kitchen table and her husband in the bathroom floor.

Denton said the call came into the sheriff's office at 8:45 a.m.

According to sheriff's officials, Hellard apparently killed his wife with a single shotgun blast to the eye area at point-blank range. He then pulled the shotgun on himself and fired one shot behind the ear.

Denton said no note was found by law enforcement explaining the two deaths and no foul play is suspected.

"You don't often get notes in murder-suicide cases," Sheriff Bob Whitworth said.

Deputies investigated the scene for most of the day Wednesday.

The Hellard's bodies were taken to the State Medical Examiner's office in Tulsa. A report from that office will be filed with the sheriff's office.

Whitworth said the medical examiner arrived at the scene about 11 a.m. and ruled the deaths had occurred approximately eight hours previously.

According to Denton, the investigation is completed.

Sheriff's officials said the Hellards were well known for prospering in the oil business. They owned mineral interests in several oil and gas wells near Kellyville, according to reports.
