OBITUARIES ON THIS PAGE FOR:

GEORGE HIBARGER
From the "News Derrick Journal," Drumright, Oklahoma, February 15, 1984

George Hibarger, 62, of Mannford, died Monday evening, February 6, 1984, at the St. Frances Hospital, Tulsa, of cancer.

Born November 14, 1921, in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of the late Oscar and the late Mildred Hibarger.

He was united in marriage to the former Mildred Youngblood in Wichita, Kansas on May 31, 1944.

He owned and operated the Keyport Marina, east of Mannford, for the last eight years. He was known and loved by fishermen, boaters and sportsmen across the country.

Before coming to Mannford he operated the excursion boat "Idle Time" on Lake Texhoma for many years. He was also founder of the International Marina Systems, which builds boat docks across the U.S. As a hobby he loved flying model airplanes.

He was known for his determination and hard work. He was always successful in his ventures because he wouldn't give up, he continued to try until his goals were accomplished.

He was a brilliant man; a self-taught man. If he wanted something done he would learn how and do it himself. He was extremely interesting to others because of what he had accomplished and he was always willing to share his knowledge if asked.

"He would never say 'do this'; it was always 'let's do this'," Thomas Jackson, an employee at Keyport said.

"I was closer to him than my own family. He was like father to me," Jackson said. "There was nothing he would not do for you if you asked."

He was dedicated to his family; they shared a closeness uncommon to today. He was also dedicated to his friends. What he had to say about people could always be addressed directly to the person; he was fair to everyone, for he did not judge.

"He was a close to perfect example of what a perfect person ought to be," friend Morris Nelson said of him.

Mr. Hibarger was affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and veteran pilot of World War II.

Survivors include: his wife, Mildred, of the home; one daughter, Lyndoll Stewart, Durant; one son, Guerry Hibarger, Mannford; one sister, Eunice Myers, Arkansas City, Kansas; and three grandchildren.

LESLIE JAMES "LES" HINTON
From the "News Derrick Journal," Drumright, Oklahoma, January 11, 1984

Area residents and friends Tuesday paid final honor to one of the founding fathers of New Mannford; a man who touched the lives of all he knew and many he will never know.

Leslie James (Les) Hinton, 81, of Mannford, died Sunday morning, January 8, 1984, at St. John's Medical Center, Tulsa.

He was born Feburary 16, 1901 to James and Josie Hinton in Iowa. After living in Nebraska for nine years, the Hintons moved to Mannford, where Les made his home for 73 years.

He was united in married to Juanita Coonrod May 29, 1923. Together they owned and operated the Mannford Trading Post, a general merchandise and grocery store, in both the old town and new from 1923 to 1966.

A unique quality of the man and his business was that, in good times or bad, he never refused credit to anyone. He saw the needs of people during hard times especially, and never denied anyone what he could give.

"He knew who would repay him and who couldn't; he knew when he would not be paid, but he never tried to collect from those who couldn't. Business at times was 80 percent on credit or more. He would go with the people from paycheck to paycheck, crop to crop," Charles McIntire, close friend and former employee of Hinton said.

He will be remembered as a good man; a man everyone liked -- close friend or casual acquaintance; a man with a sense of humor who loved life and all it had to offer.

Hinton was a pillar of the Mannford Masonic Lodge, where he was a member for some 60 years, serving in every post of the lodge.

He was also a 32nd degree Mason in the Guthrie Consistery, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, past member of the Mannford Lions Club.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mannford and a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army.

Les was an avid sportsman; hunting quail or fishing nearly every day. He was a great promoter of wildlife and game development in the area. Besides hunting and fishing, he raised Hereford cattle as a pastime.

Perhaps Les will be remembered best, though, for his part in saving a town doomed to the floodwaters of Keystone Dam.

He worked with a number of remarkable men in developing and implementing a plan to move the town of Mannford to its present location.

Taking money from his pockets to fund a feasibility study, he also spent a great deal of time and effort in actually moving the community to its new location, giving it life once more.

He is survived by his wife, Juanita Hinton, of the home in Mannford.

Other survivors include: a daughter, Peggy McIntire, Mannford; son-in-laws Jack McIntire, Mannford and Don Shanks, Tulsa; a sister, Christine Todd of Oregon; four brothers; Harl Hinton, Mannford, Guy Hinton, Ralls, Texas, Paul Hinton, Skellytown, Texas, and Phil Hinton, Newkirk, Oklahoma; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 1984, at the First Baptist Church, Mannford, with Rev. Larry Downum officiating.

Pallbearers were: Don Holmes, Dale Holmes, Jack Hinton, Pleas Cravens, Charles McIntire and John McIntire.

Interment followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mannford, under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Service, Sand Springs.
