"PATRICK DIES IN ACCIDENT"

June 22, 1988 at 2:44 a.m. -- Donley Robert (Robbie) Patrick, 22 years old, was involved in a one-car accident on Farrow Road and Greenwood Avenue. Patrick's car hit the curb on the west side of Greenwood and moved across the road, jumping the curb on the east side moving further down the road, where the car hit a tree head on.

Patrick was alone in the car. Mannford Police Officer, Jay Anglin (who worked the accident), reports that the victim was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa by Life-Flight where Robbie lost his life as a result of internal injuries on June 23, 1988.

--------------------

From "The Mannford Eagle," Mannford, Oklahoma, June 29, 1988

"PICKUP ACCIDENT KILLS ONE"

An early morning one-vehicle accident left a Mannford resident in very critical condition for 1 1/2 days, before he died from severe internal injuries.

According to Mannford Officer Jay Anglin, Donley Robert "Robbie" Patrick, 26, was seriously injured after his 1986 GMC pickup crashed head-on into a tree on Greenwood Avenue, last Wednesday around 2:40 a.m. He died at St. Francis Hospital late Thursday afternoon.

Anglin stated that Patrick had picked up his truck at the Winner's Circle and was being followed home by a friend. When Patrick got on Greenwood, he accelerated extremely fast, hit the curb twice and crashed into the tree in front of the Lakeview Christian Church.

Anglin states Patrick was going between 40-50 mph at impact. The posted speed limit on Greenwood is 35 mph.

The first point of impact was 50 feet north of Farrow Road where he hit the west curbing. His truck then traveled 102 feet down Greenwood, jumped the east curb, traveled 153 feet parallel with the sidewalk and hit the tree. After impact with the tree, his vehicle spun around and ended up about 20 feet south of the tree, facing west.

When rescue units arrived, Patrick had been thrown over to the passenger's side of the truck, and his blood pressure was extremely low, Anglin said. The Mannford ambulance crew prepared Patrick for Life Flight to Tulsa.

The day after the accident, some unidentified person tied a yellow ribbon around the tree which Patrick hit. Patrick's brothers and sisters removed the yellow ribbon from the tree and replaced it with a white ribbon, leaving a thank you note to the person who placed it there. The original ribbon was then used in the family spray at the funeral.

Police Chief Orlin White feels the yellow ribbon was a nice gesture.

"I feel it was put there by someone to let the family know that the whole town cares," White said.

Funeral services for Patrick were held Saturday, June 25, at the First Baptist Church, where nearly 600 people attended. Interment was held at Oak Hill Cemetery on Highway 48 North.

NATTIE JO PRICE

WOMAN MISSING; SCUFFLE INDICATED
Tribune State Staff

BRISTOW -- Police say there is evidence of a scuffle and injury in the house of an 80-year-old woman reported missing over the weekend.

"Her bed was broken down, things were in disarray and there was some blood on the bed," Chief Mike Newell said.

Newell said the woman, Nattie Jo Price, last was seen about 5:30 p.m. Friday. Police found her house broken into about 12:45 p.m. Saturday. A television apparently had been taken.

Price is described as having long gray hair and weighing about 80 pounds. Her car, a gold 1973 Ford Galaxy with the license number OG1933, also is missing.

DEATH CAUSE UNCLEAR, PATHOLIGIST TESTIFIES"
By Joe Stumpe, Tribune State Writer

SAPULPA -- A Pathologist has said he couldn't determine after an autopsy whether 80-year-old Nattie Jo Price of Bristow died of head injuries, neck injuries or was strangled.

Dr. M. F. Merchant testified Wednesday in a preliminary hearing for ex-convict Joseph Crawford, 27, charged with first-degree murder in the death of Mrs. Price.

Mrs. Price was abducted Feb. 20 and her body found three days later in a shed in Sapulpa. Her car and television were taken.

Merchant detailed bleeding in her eyes, tongue and brain, fractures to her skull and face and a tear in her spine, but said he could not determine which injury killed her.

She also had cuts on her hands and bruises on her feet, he said. Merchant said Mrs. Price's blood-soaked garment was torn in front and back when he examined her.

Neighbors testified that Mrs. Price was a tiny woman -- standing less than 5 feet tall and weighing about 90 pounds -- who had lived alone for at least 10 years.

Crawford is more than 6 feet tall and athletically built.

Mrs. Price drove herself to the store whenever she wanted, but hired a woman to clean her house and youths from the neighborhood to help with yardwork and "things in the house she couldn't reach," said Lucille Green, who lived across the street.

On the day Mrs. Price was discovered missing, Green's daughter, Charlotte, a junior high student, said Mrs. Price's "newspaper was still in the mailbox, and she always gets up and reads it."

Green said she looked around Mrs. Price's house when she noticed a lock broken off the back door.

Green said there were clothes strewn around Mrs. Price's bedroom and blood on her bed.

"She was very neat and she always had her clothes folded up," Green said.

Crawford's preliminary hearing was continued until next month, after which Special Judge Bill Wilson is expected to decide whether there is enough evidence to order a trial for him.

Records show Crawford was released from prison in December 1986. He had been serving a sentence for burglary from Tulsa and Creek counties, according to a spokesman for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.

Relatives of Crawford said the family's name is responsible for his arrest.

Crawford's brother, Bobby Lee, was sentenced to 150 years in prison after being convicted of assaulting a 68-year-old Bristow woman and burglarizing her home in May 1987.

The woman's home was about one block from Mrs. Price's white frame home.

A man who identified himself as Crawford's first cousin said the prosecutor's case is "kind of confusing."

Harrison Crawford said the earlier case against Bobby Lee Crawford consisted of "a lot of things that weren't proven."

Asked if the family believed there was a link between the cases, he said, "Name is one thing. One thing happens and then another thing happens and they come looking for you."

"LAKE AREA SENIOR CITIZENS NEWS" by Grace Inglett

MY TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND

Geneva Delancy Prior was a friend I could trust. There were three of us who did things, went places and had our ups and downs, Geneva, Alice and myself. We were called the 'M & M' girls by several of our friends.

First Alice Chestnut left us and moved to Arkansas. We were still the two "M & M' girls, now Geneva is gone and I don't want to be an "M & M' girl any longer. That name was a joke among us.

I will miss Geneva more than anyone knows, I loved her like a sister, and it hurts as if I had lost a sister.

She was one great friend.
