Francis Zickefoose

Francis Andrew Zickefoose, 89, a pioneer resident of this area, was given funeral services at 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, in the Keystone General Baptist Church. His second cousin, the Rev. Edward Zickefoose, pastor, officiated. Burial was in Mannford Oak Hill cemetery with Mobley-Dodson Funeral Home, Sand Springs, handling arrangements.

Death occurred Thursday, March 6. He was born March 14, 1896, near Sapulpa, Indian Territory in a location he described as where Polecat Creek makes a bend around Mocassin Bluff. His father, Andrew (Andy) Zickefoose was honorably discharged as a Texas Ranger in 1878. His mother was the former Emma Horton.

In 1897 the family moved to a school lease in the area called "The Pocket," southeast of East Basin. In 1907 the family moved to Appalachia where Francis attended the log cabin school house at Dry Lake.

For 18 of his working years he served as rural mail carrier for Keystone. From Keystone the family moved to north of Sapulpa before moving to Sand Springs to be near a daughter.

He was a member of the General Baptist Church and a World War I veteran.

Survivors are his wife, Luevada, of the home; two daughters, Betty Shaeffer of Sand Springs and Mary Ann Moffitt of Appalachia Bay; two sons, Clifford Zickefoose of California and Raymond Zickefoose of Prue; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A life-time resident of the Keystone and Sapulpa areas, Francis Andrew Zickefoose, age 89, died Thursday, March 6th, in the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home at Sapulpa. He was born to Andrew and Mary Zickefoose on March 14, 1896, in Sapulpa, Ok., Indian Territory.

Mr. Zickefoose was a WWI Veteran and a retired Rural Route Mail Carrier for U.S. Post Office and was a member of the General Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, LueVada, of the home; two daughters, Betty Shaeffer of Sand Springs and Mary Ann Moffitt of Appalachia Bay; two sons, Clifford Zickefoose of California and Ramond Zickefoose of Prue, Okla.; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 10, at the Keystone General Baptist Church with the Rev. Ed Zickefoose officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Mobley-Dodson Funeral Services of Sand Springs.

Dinner guests in our home last Wed. were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Morgan, Mission, Tex., Loma Morgan, Long Beach, California, Margaret Reeves, San Clementic, Calif., Jack and Wonda Zimmerman, Comanche, Ok., Gene and Phillip Zimmerman, Duncan, Ok., Elizabeth Burton, McPherson, Kansas, Sue Ann and Benjamen George, Hutchison, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Davenport, Ponca City, OK, Alma Davenport, Pete Cargill, Lisa Linduff, and David Cargill.

They were here to attend graveside services of Mary Zimmerman, age 87, who passed away in Hobbs, New Mexico Jan. 25th.

Mary Zimmerman, a Drumright resident many years ago, was a sister of Ray Morgan.
