REVOLUTIONARY WAR INFORMATION

BRIGADE ORDERS, August 26, 1793

The enrolled militia in the Counties of Gloucester and Burlington which compose the FIRST BRIGADE in the FIRST DIVISION of the Militia in New- Jersey, are desired to take Notice, that in obedience to the Militia Law of New-Jersey, the Ranks of the Regiments in said Brigade, have been determined by lot, and that the Regiments are to muster and exercise as follows, to wit,

The Militia in the Townships of Woolwich and Greenwich compose the FIRST REGIMENT commanded by COLONEL ROBERT BROWN, and are to muster and exercise at Sweedsborough on Tuesday the fifteenth day of October next.

The Militia in the Townships of Deptford, Gloucester, Waterford, Newton, and Gloucester-Town, compose the SECOND REGIMENT commanded by COLONEL FRANKLIN DAVENPORT, and are to muster and exercise between Little and Great Timber-Creek-Bridges on the main road from Philadelphia to Salem and Cumberland, on Wednesday the Sixteenth day of October next.

The Militia in the Townships of Evesham, Northampton, Hanover (except the Jacob's-Town Company) and Upper-Springfield Company which compose the THIRD REGIMENT commanded by COLONEL JOHN BLACK and are to muster and exercise at the New-Mills on Thursday the Seventeenth day of October next.

The Militia in the Townships of Mansfield, Chesterfield, Nottingham, and the Jacob's-Town Company in Hanover, compose the FOURTH REGIMENT, commanded by COLONEL JOHN VAN EMBURGH, and are to muster and exercise at Bordentown on Friday the Eighteenth day of October next.

The Militia in the Townships of Burlington, Willingborough and Chester, and the Lower-Springfield Company compose the BURLINGTON INDEPENDENT BATTALION, commanded by MAJOR GEORGE PAINTER, and are to muster and exercise on the commons opposite the late Barracks in the City of Burlington on Mondays the Twenty-first and Twenty-eighth days of October next.

The Militia of the Townships of Great-Egg-Harbour and Galloway compose the GREAT-EGG-HARBOUR INDEPENDENT BATTALION, commanded by MAJOR DANIEL BENEZET, and by special provision in the said law, are to muster and exercise at the usual place or places of Parade in the said Townships on Mondays the Twenty-first and Twenty-eighth days of October next.

The Militia of the township of Little-Egg-Harbour (which belong to the third Regiment) by like special provision, are to muster and exercise at the usual place of Parade in LITTLE-EGG-HARBOUR, on Monday the Twenty-third day of September next and on Thursday the Seventeenth day of October next.

The Colonels will have the rank of the Battalions in their respective Regiments determined by Lot, to be drawn by the Majors in their prefence and direct the muster and exercise of the Battalions accordingly, agreeably to Law.

The Militia are also to be mustered and exercised in Companies, "On the third Monday in May of every year, and at such places as their respective Captains or commanding officers of Companys shall order."

MAJOR NATHANIEL DONNEL is appointed Inspector of the said Brigade and Brigade Major, and is to be obeyed accordingly.
