FORREST READ HEADS PHYSICAL DEPARTMENT

HIGHLY QUALIFIED AS COACH

Mr. Forrest "Pop" Read, former physical director in Wichita, Kansas, arrived September 8, to take charge of the physical department of Sapulpa high school.

Mr. Read received his Bachelor of Physical Education degree from the Y.M.C.A. college at Springfield, Massachusetts, four years after returning from France. While in college he participated in all the major sports, earning his three letters in his freshman year.

According to Coach Read, Sapulpa has some excellent material and a succesful season in football is certain. He states that at least fifty percent of the game played can easily be victorious. His plans are mainly to develop teams which will represent the school in a year or two from now. In doing this, he is trying to develop a good football sense.

On Oct. 22, the second number of the lyceum, the Gernhardt Duo, will be presented at the high school auditorium at 8:15.

GIRLS TO LEAD SENIOR CLASS OF '25

Lucy Higgenbotham was unanimously elected president of the senior class at the first class meeting held Thursday morning at 8 o'clock in the auditorium. Other officers are as follows: Fred Manning, vice-president and treasurer; Caroline Thrift, secretary.

Miss Lucille Moore, English enstructor, and Mr. Forrest "Pop" Read, athletic coach and physical director, were elected sponsors of the senior class. According to custom the seniors will give a class play in the spring.

CHAMPIONSHIP BAND REORGANIZES

With the return of the bandmaster S.R. Lamb, and 40 members, the boys are continuing their efforts to keep their record of being one of the best high school bands in the state.

The band was reorganized as being the best band in the Fifteenth Rotary District which includes Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri.

This organization has done as much for advertising Sapulpa as any other organization in the city. In an advertising way, we know the following to be correct: that Springfield, Mo., Bolivar, Mo., and Independence, Kan., back their boys band and send them on booster trips of several hundred miles from their home town and are widely known through their boys band. The director of our own boys band knows each organization and can frankly say that our boys put out a better class of music than either of these others.

Who backs the athletics, the football games, if not the band?

Why can't Sapulpa back her band for the good that they are to her own purpose?

GALEN S. JONES NEW PRINCIPAL OF SAPULPA HIGH SCHOOL

Galen S. Jones, formerly director of related arts in San Antonio, Texas, now principal of Sapulpa high school, is a man eminently fitted for the position. He holds an A.M. degree from Columbia University of New York City and an A.B. degree from McPherson college at McPherson, Kansas.

Mr. Jones has had a teaching career of marked success. In 1919 he taught in the English department of Marion high school, Marion, Kansas. The next year he taught mathematics and history in the high school at LeMars, Iowa. The next two years were spent as principal of the Sapulpa junior high school. From 1923 to 1924 he was director of related arts in the junior high school at San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Jones is active in civic affairs, being interested in anything that is for (Continued on page 2.) the betterment of the community. He is a member of the Rotary club and the Presbyterian church.

He succeeds Mr. J. R. Holmes as principal of the high schoo.l. Mr. Holmes in turn succeeds Mr. Barton as superintendent of schools. Mr. Barton is now superintendent of schools at Okmulgee.
