JIM FRANKLIN
Jim Franklin Dies Saturday At Age 69

From "The Jenks Journal," Thursday, February 8, 1962

Jim Franklin, 69, died Saturday at his home here. He was a familiar figure along the streets of Jenks as he walked in the company of his spotted dog or dozed in the sun on the steps of buildings along Main Street.

Ernest Cox, south of Jenks, probably knows Franklin's past better than anyone in the area as the man worked for him three years and for Fred Cox a year after Skyline Park was begun.

Ernest Cox helped Frankln prove his age through old census records which enabled him to draw an old age pension.

Franklin was born in Missouri and had lived in the Jenks area for around 50 years. He at one time owned his own farm and during World War II worked for the W. C. Norris Company in Tulsa. He had not heard from any member of his family in many years.

He was a chronic sufferer from heart trouble and asthma. He was placed in a Sapulpa nursing home by Cox at one time but he would not stay there, hiring a taxicab to bring him to Jenks when Cox refused to take him out of the home.

Burial was in Covey Cemetery, west of Jenks, under the direction of the Ninde Funeral Home following graveside services.
