"The passing of Vern Yard at the Riverside Nursing Home left pleasant memories for the home. As Mr. Yard and Mrs. Hays were the first two residents of the home. He enjoyed Sunday school and church services and also enjoyed singing. He and Glen Pope later attended the Manger Baptist church for sometime. After he became a wheel chair patient he became less active. He enjoyed his room mate, the late George Ray. He was helpful in helping the chair patients to the meals until he became helpless. He enjoyed cookies, cake and ice cream, and also gifts that friends brought to him and he never failed to thank each one for their kindness. His sister, Peggy Horton, resides at the home. His nephew and family were his regular visitors. He will be missed by those in the home including the personnel and residents and others who have been frequent visitors since the opening of the home."
