Reuben Randolph Herriott¹

• Reuben Randolph Herriott was born on July 11, 1807 in New York, son of David and Rebecca Herriott.^1,2
• Reuben married Sophia H. Howard, daughter of John Day Howard Jr. and Sophia Hinckley, on February 11, 1841 in Boston, Massachusetts, as his first wife. They were married by Francis Parkman, minister of the Unitarian New North Church.³
• Reuben married Martha W., as his second wife.⁴
• The census of 1850 shows: R. R. Herriott, 42, custom house; and Martha W. Herriott, 30; listed with Emma W. Herriott and Anna B. Herriott
  living at Ward 1, Boston, Massachusetts.
  Also living there was Selena J. Comstock, 22, from Virginia.⁴

George Hiland

• George Hiland was baptized on December 30, 1621 in Rolvenden, Kent, England. There is some question as to whether this is the George Highland who married Hannah Cruttenden.¹

  Possibly built sometime between 1690-1710, although it might also date back to 1660, the Hyland House in Guilford is a saltbox house that was most likely constructed for the sheep farmer, George Hyland, who died in 1693. It was later owned by his grandson, Ebenezer Parmelee, who was a shipwright and a metal/woodworker. Parmelee built New England’s first steeple clock for Guilford’s Congregational Church in 1727.
  
  The house was in danger of demolition in 1916, but was saved by the Dorothy Whitfield Historic Society , who opened it as a museum of colonial life in 1918.
• George married Hannah Cruttenden in July, 1665 in Guilford, Connecticut.¹
