  • Samuel Hinckley was born on February 14, 1652/53 in Barnstable, Massachusetts.1
  • He was the son of Gov. Thomas Hinckley and Mary Richards1
  • snd was baptized there February 20, 1652/53.2
  • Samuel lived at West Barnstable, on land known as the "Timber Lands," that his father gave him.3
  • His died at Barnstable March 19, 1696/97 at age 442
  • , proved April 13, 1697. left one half of the goods and land to his widow, and one half to his eldest son Thomas, who was then only 16 years old. He also mentioned "all my children," although naming only the eldest son. "I will and bequeath unto my son Thomas Hinckley ye other half of all my sd lands and housing to him and his heirs and assigns forever, provided he shall confirm ye conveyance of ye lands which I have sold of his unto Samuel Cob and Henry Cobb which wear given to my sd son by his uncle Thomas Hinckley in his last will and testament and my said son Thomas shall have all ye money now due me from Richard Childs Eliazer Crocker and Jonathan Crocker being part of the money which I sold his land for."3

  • Thomas Hinckley was born about 1742.2
  • He was the son of Ebenezer Hinckley and Hannah Nightingale.1
  • Thomas Hinckley was a shipmaster, and settled at first in Wellfleet, afterwards removing to Boston.2
  • Thomas married Susannah Hewes.2
  • Thomas died aged 34 during the Revolution.

    Family traditions variously assert that he died while a prisoner of war from eating peas boiled in a copper kettle, and that he died during the Revolution, after escaping from a British prison ship by swimming ashore.2,3
