- Hannah Abbie Berry was born on September 16, 1851 in Lynn, Massachusetts, daughter of John and Ann W. Berry.2
- Hannah married Horace A. Sawyer Jr., son of Horace Austin Sawyer and Sarah Hale, on June 19, 1867 in Lynn, Massachusetts, by Rev. James M. Whiton, pastor of First Church. Hannah apparently lied about her age. She was only 15 at marriage, and said that she was 20.3

[Private, No. 1299.] Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Interior be, and he is hereby, authorized and directed to place on the pension roll, subject to the provisions and limitations of the pension laws, the name of Hannah A. Sawyer, widow of Horace A. Sawyer, late of Company H, First Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, and pay her a pension at the rate of twelve dollars per month in lieu of that she is now receiving. Approved, April 11, 1906. - Hannah died in January, 1932 at age 80.4
