Augustus Roys was born on December 28, 1790.¹
He was the son of James Roys and Olive Hinman.¹
He lived for several years in Oliver Burr's house, where his children were born and his first wife died. He also lived in a fine house afterward owned by his son Harlow and occupied in 1900 by Charles Northway.²
Augustus married Lucy Smith, daughter of Asher Smith and Sarah (?), on November 9, 1813.¹
March 17, 1816, Augustus Roys was admitted to the at Church of Christ, Norfolk, Connecticut; Admitted.
In 1835, Augustus Roys he started in the tanning business. He and Augustus Smith built the first tannery in South Norfolk, which was burned and rebuilt..²
Augustus died on October 3, 1842 in Norfolk, Connecticut, at age 51.¹
He and Lucy Smith were buried in South Cemetery, Norfolk, Connecticut.³

There is confusion between Caroline Roys,daughter of Augustus and Lucy Roys, and Caroline Roys, daughter of Hiram and Lydia Roys, if indeed they are two people.
Caroline Roys was born in 1821/22 in Connecticut.²
She was the daughter of Augustus Roys and Lucy Smith.¹
Caroline married Harrison Holt on March 4, 1846 in Norfolk, Connecticut, as her first husband. They were married by Rev. Joseph Eldredge, Congregational minister.³
Caroline married Abner Hinman on February 22, 1849 in Norfolk, Connecticut, as her second husband. They were married by Rev. Joseph Eldredge, Congregational minister.⁴
The census of 1850 shows: Abner Hinman, 32, a farmer; and Caroline Roys, 28;
living at Augusta, Oneida County, New York.²
She was buried in 1855 in Knoxboro Cemetery, South Street, Augusta, Oneida County, New York.⁵
