- William Waldemar Spaulding was born on March 10, 1846 in Lempster, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.1
- He was the son of William Spaulding and Emma Eliza Miner.1
- At the time William Waldemar was born, the family was residing temporarily at the time in the Benjamin Parker house in the north part of the town, but soon removed to the farm near the schoolhouse in old "No. 7," where they lived for many years.2
- The census of 1850 shows:

William Spaulding, 37, a farmer with $2000 real estate; and
Emma E. Spaulding, 34;
living at Lempster, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.3 - The census of 1860 shows:
William W. Spaulding, 14, attending school; in the household of
William Spaulding, 46, a farmer with $1600 real estate and $1200 personal estate; and
Emma E. Spaulding, 43, a housekeeper;
living at Lempster, Sullivan County, New Hampshire.4 - William Waldemar Spaulding was graduated in 1867 from Tufts College, and pursued the profession of teaching for fourteen years with much success, six years in Adams, Mass., two in Boston and six in Haverhill, going to the latter place in 1875 as' principal of the high school, and resigning in 1881 to engage in shoe manufacturing, in which he continued, establishing a large and prosperous business, which has been an important factor in the industrial prosperity of that enterprising city. He also become largely interested in cotton mills and a finishing plant in Easthampton and was a director in the same. He was several years a member of the Haverhill School Board, and chairman of the same; was a director of the First National Bank, vice-president of the Haverhill Savings Bank, treasurer of the Hale Hospital, and a trustee of Tufts College, serving on the finance committee, and was long active in the affairs of the First Universalist Church of Haverhill. Tufts College conferred upon him the honor ary degree of A.M.2
- William married Evelyn Elsie Harris on November 25, 1868 in West Boylston, Massachusetts.5
