Mary Emily Allen was born on 2 November 1848 in Kentucky daughter of James Greene Allen and wife Clarinda Walker Wood Allen. They were the first permanent settlers in Eden Township, arriving by covered wagon from Casey County, Kentucky, with six month old Mary Emily.^1,2,3
Mary Emily Allen married James Andrew Webster, son of Hiram Webster and Hannah C. Elliot, on 20 March 1867.¹
The census of 1880 shows:
G. Webster, G. Webster was a carpenter. Also in the household were his divorced mother-in-law, C. W. Allen, 53, from Kentucky, and his brother-in-law, James Allen, 29; and
Mary E. Webster listed with
Syrena Webster and Nellie F. Webster
living at Eden, Marshall County, Iowa.²
Mary Emily Allen and James Andrew Webster were divorced in 1895 or 1896.⁴
The census of 1900 shows:
Mary E. Webster, 51, asylum cook;
living at Polk County Poor House, Saylorville, Polk County, Iowa.⁵
The census of 1910 shows:
Mary E. Webster, 61, cook at the County Home;
living at Polk County Poor Farm, Saylor, Polk County, Iowa.⁶
The census of 1920 shows:
Mary E. Webster, 71, private nurse in the home of K. K. and Hattie A. Kimble;
living at 541 N 3rd St., Marshalltown, Marshall County, Iowa.⁷
Mary Emily Allen died in 1947 or 1948.³
She was buried in Eden Cemetery, Eden Township, Marshall County, Iowa.³
