On 1 February 2014, the Texas Czech Genealogical Society (TCGS) will be hosting its annual meeting at the Caldwell Civic/Visitor Center in Caldwell, Texas, from 9:00 a. m. to 4:30 p. m. Registration will begin at 8:00 a. m. Using the theme, “Links to Ancestral Knowledge,” featured speakers Thadious L. Polasek, Cathleen Witt Dunne, Matthew Booth, and Charlene Hurta will discuss the topics early life in Moravia, Texas; heritable disease genealogy; family history and copyright laws; the Moravian Lasske dialect; and TCGS in 2014. Other activities at the meeting will include a lunch of delicious Czech food, a silent auction, the chance to purchase Czech items at a sales table, and the opportunity to do genealogical research in the book room. Special services will be provided for scanning early Czech pioneer photographs and identifying old pictures.

Registration fees postmarked on or before 21 January 2014 will be $35 for members of the society and $40 for non-members. After that date, the cost for registration will be $40 for members and $45 for non-members. At the door fees will be $45 for all persons wishing to attend. Checks, payable to TCGS, may be sent to Patsy Robertson, P. O. Box 1, Sheridan, Texas 77475; e-mail [email protected]; phone 979-234-3697.

If you are interested in joining the society, annual membership dues are only $20.00. Checks, payable to TCGS, may be mailed to Merlene Bravenec, membership chair, 3201 Buckeye Lane, Temple, Texas 76502. For further information, you may go to the society’s website at www.txczgs.org.

This week we will list the names of members of another East Texas chapter for the years 1878-1879. The data can be found on page 82 of TRANSACTIONS OF THE M. E. GRAND ROYAL ARCH CHAPTER OF TEXAS AT ITS THIRTIETH ANNUAL CONVOCATION HELD AT THE MASONIC TEMPLE, IN THE CITY OF HOUSTON, ON THURSDAY, THE ELEVENTH DAY OF DECEMBER, A. D. 1879, A. I. 2409, AT THREE O’CLOCK P. M., which was published in Houston by W. H. Coyle, Printer and Lithographer, in 1880. (In the title, the M and E are each followed by three dots, representing the Triple Tau emblem of the organization. However, for simplicity, a period is used in this column. Because many of organization’s names of offices also include the Triple Tau emblem, only the initials of those ranks will be used in this column.)
