     Here are some selected items from various issues of the Center Daily News, published in Center, Texas. (Surnames are capitalized for emphasis. Some punctuation may be changed for clarity.)

     24 April 1936, page 1 – “H. C. PARKER of Tenaha and L. W. WOMACK of Paxton were business visitors in Center today.

     Fletcher NELSON, representative of the Shreveport Journal, was a visitor in Center today.

     Guy SMITH of London is visiting in Center.

     Two young ladies from Shelby County are candidates for degrees from the Stephen F. Austin Teachers College at Nacogdoches.... They are Miss Jimmie Jeanne MANGUM, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. MANGUM of this city, and Miss Inez PEDDY, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter PEDDY of Tenaha....”

     Edited by Miss Jennie IVEY, the “Society” column on page 2 of the 24 April 1936 issue included the following news:

     “Mrs. J. H. ELLINGTON of San Augustine visited her mother, Mrs. BELL, Thursday afternoon.

     Little Johnny BARRETT is confined at home with a well-developed case of measles.”

     On page 3 of the same issue, McNeal GREER placed this notice: “Posted—No hunting or trespassing will be alowed (sic) on my property three miles east of Center in the Africa community.”

 
     Page 2 of the 27 April 1936 issue carried this notice by Mrs. Lon PRICE: “Those persons who are weeks, months, and years behind—please come in and pay your flower bills....”

     Near the notice by Mrs. Price was a legal notice placed by Minta HERVEY. “No. 1813—Estate of O. H. POLLEY, deceased: In the County Court of Cameron County, Texas. Notice is hereby given that I, Minta HERVEY, Administratrix of the Estate of O. H. POLLEY, deceased, have this day filed my application in the above entitled and numbered cause for an order of the County Court of Cameron County, Texas, authorizing me as Administratrix of the Estate of O. H. POLLEY, deceased, to make a mineral lease...of the following described real estate belong (sic) to said estate...

631 acres of land out of the Wm. WISNER survey,
68 ¾ acres of land adjoining the above tract out of the Wesley HILL survey,
and 10 4/5 acres of land out of the R. N. MOORE survey, known as the ‘Boyce Farm,’ situated in Shelby County, Texas...conveyed by deed from R. H. ADAMS to O. H. POLLEY, dated December 3, 1921...,
90 acres of land out of the Wesley HILL survey, situated in Shelby County, Texas...conveyed by deed from G. W. HENDRICKS et ux to O. H. POLLEY. dated April 8, 1922....
Said application will be heard by the County Court at the Court House (sic) in the City of Brownsville, on the 11th day of May A. D. 1936....”
