Many people, especially genealogical researchers, are interested in finding out if they have Native American ancestors. The article, “Tracing Tribal Heritage Possible through DNA” by Teddye Snell appears on pages 14, 17, and 18 of the January 2011 issue of the monthly publication, The Indian Trader. Taken from the Oklahoma newspaper, Tahlequah Daily News, the article tells what DNA testing can and cannot prove about Native American pedigrees and discusses controversies about what constitutes a member of the Cherokee Nation, according to tribal law.
