The 25th family reunion of the descendants of John Calvin JOHNS and wife, Mary Elizabeth FINCH, is scheduled for 15 June 2013 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in DeKalb, Texas. Persons planning to attend should bring their favorite foods for the covered dish meal. Individuals who have celebrated a 90th or 100th birthday will be recognized. A table of remembrance will be set up for kinfolks who have died. (Relatives are encouraged to bring copies of obituaries in order to update family data.) A table will also be set up for family photographs. For fun, individuals are encouraged to create a funny, fancy, or crazy hat for a hat parade and contest. On 21-22 June 2013, the eleventh annual TOLLIVER family reunion will take place at the Carl D. Perkins Community Center, located on Route 32/ Flemingsburg Road in Morehead, KY. All TOLLIVER/TOLIVER descendants are welcome to attend. In addition to the opportunity to meet new kinfolks and exchange genealogical information, persons at the reunion will enjoy a potluck lunch, a silent auction, a talent-hobby show, bingo, and a video about the Tolliver-Martin feud. Relatives may also bring copies of their favorite recipes for inclusion in a family cookbook. Dr. J. D. Reeder will speak about the restoration of the Jacob Finley Tolliver cemetery and the people buried in it. On their own, individuals may want to tour family cemeteries and sites pertaining to the feud.

A free genealogical program, “Diamond, River Rocks, and Lumps of Coal,” is being offered on 7 June 2013 at 6:30 p. m. in the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. Certified genealogist J. Mark Lowe will be the presenter. No registration is required.
The next day, 8 June 2013, Lowe will be the featured speaker at the Library for sessions about “Overlooked Genealogy Sources,” jointly sponsored by the North Carolina Genealogical Society and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. He will discuss such topics as following a case through court, locating ancestors without a census (for example, using lists of road crews, jury selections, and daily court actions), learning about trails of Daniel Boone and other western travelers, and finding your landless forebears. Registration costs for the all-day event will be $36 for members of the North Carolina Genealogical Society and $40 for non-members. It is not too early to start making plans to attend the fall conference of the Virginia Genealogical Society (VGS), scheduled for 25-26 October 2013. On 25 October, a research visit to the Virginia Room in the City of Fairfax Regional Library in Fairfax, Virginia, will include opportunities to receive individual assistance from experienced researchers. The all-day conference on 26 October will occur at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Herndon, Virginia. This year’s theme will be “The Essential Desktop and More.” Guest speakers will be Pamela Boyer Sayre and Rick Sayre, who will discuss the latest in online mapping tools, the latest in land records, and technological toys and tools useful to genealogists.
