The Texas quarterly, The Leon Hunters Dispatch, just completed its twenty-third year of publication. Subjects in the issues printed during 2012 (publication date lags a year behind) include Leon County obituary listings for 2011; biographical sketches of several county judges; a reproduction of the 1947 yearbook for the Women’s Home Demonstration Clubs in the county; an article about descendants of Richard S. LAMB, born in 1784 in Robeson County, North Carolina, and died in 1860 in Leon County; a list of county voters in 1868; reproductions of marriage licenses issued in the county in 1912; records from an account ledger of Reed Funeral Home in Flynn; data about some of the county’s Civil War soldiers in 1861; and names of people who received some of the first land patents in the county. Each issue, which is indexed, usually has several illustrations or photographs that accompany the text.

To receive the periodical, you can become a member of the Leon County Genealogical Society (LCGS). Checks for annual dues of $25.00 may be mailed to LCGS, P. O. Box 400, Centerville, Texas 75833.
