Interested persons are cordially invited to attend the dedication ceremony for the International Boundary Marker on Saturday, October 7, 2006, at 2 p. m. The Sons of the Republic of Texas (SRT) will place a Texas State Historical Marker at the site located on Texas FM 31 and LA State Highway 765 between Deadwood, TX, and Logansport, LA. Set in the ground on April 23, 1841, the Boundary Marker officially designates the recognized border between the Republic of Texas (1836-1846) and the United States.
Ron Stone, history professor at Houston Baptist University and former TV news anchorman in Houston, will be the emcee. Raymond Powell, president of the DeSoto Parish Historical Society, will tell about the marker's history and the site's preservation.
Do you have any ancestors from the Constitution State? If so, you may save countless hours of work with the new CD, THE RICKER COMPILATION OF VITAL RECORDS OF EARLY CONNECTICUT. Compiled and edited by Jacquelyn Ladd Ricker, this accumulation of material is based extensively on the well-known Barbour Collection of Connecticut Town Vital Records--the main resource for genealogical research in that state.
Beginning approximately in 1633, the town records come up to about 1850. They contain data on around 1.2 million births, marriages, and deaths from more than 135 Connecticut towns. Ricker also assembled another 300,000 records from probates, tax lists, family Bibles, and tombstone inscriptions from over 400 cemeteries.
By far, this is the largest collection of the state's town records gathered in one place. Anyone tracing forebears in the Constitution State will want to check out THE RICKER COMPILATION OF VITAL RECORDS OF EARLY CONNECTICUT.

If you have a BATES line, you may want to join the Bates Family of Old Virginia (BFOOV). The organization provides a lending library available only to members. As you research older records, especially tombstone inscriptions and obituaries, you may find only the date a person died and his or her age at the time. The age may be given in years, months, and days. To figure out the individual's birth date, you can go to the website http://www.longislandgenealogy.com/birth.html, which calculates it for you.
Charles N. Ferguson, 811 South Market, Shawnee, OK 74801 is seeking information about John MCCRACKEN and Lou A. HARRIS, who married 6 July 1894 in Wise Co., TX. Lou was born in 1870 in Tarrant Co., TX. Her given name may have been Lucinda. Although John and Lou had one son and one daughter, Ferguson has not been able to locate them on any census. Full identification for this John is needed since there are many John McCrackens in Texas.
