Are you trying to locate forebears who resided in Leon County, Texas? If you are, you may want to join the Leon County Genealogical Society. The organization publishes the quarterly, The Leon Hunters Dispatch, which contains queries, family group sheets, and pedigree charts submitted by members as well as an assortment of genealogical data. Each issue has its own index.
Examples of topics in some of the 2007 issues are the re-dedication of the 1887 Leon County courthouse; obituary of William WATSON, born in Ireland in 1846 and died in Leon County in 1931; the VOLZ family; new developments with search engines; an affidavit of protest in 1860; Confederate letters; pages from Hunter L. Carrington's 1892 day book; and an index to Leon County obituaries for the year 2006.

Spring and fall remain the most popular seasons for genealogical seminars. Although most are attended from people in the areas where the conferences are held, individuals who are traveling may wish to attend meetings in other regions, especially if their trip plans include conducting genealogical research. Here are some examples of upcoming seminars.
"The Road Goes Both Ways" is the theme of a conference jointly sponsored by the Virginia Genealogical Society (VGS) and the Virginia Room of the Roanoke Public Libraries on November 2-3, 2007, in Roanoke, VA. Guest speakers will be well-known genealogical authors Mary B. Kegley and Craig R. Scott and the Virginia Room librarian, Laura S. Wickstead . Sessions will focus on migration patterns in Southwest Virginia, migration from Pennsylvania into the Valley of Virginia and back up again, the impact of bounty land on migration, and a virtual tour of the Virginia Room, the most comprehensive genealogy library in western Virginia.
Conference fees are $40 per person for VGS members and $45 for non-members. Registration deadline is October 22, 2007. On November 9-10, 2007, the Texas State Genealogical Society will hold its annual conference at the Holiday Inn Select in Tyler, TX. The East Texas Genealogical Society will host the event. Special speakers will be George G. Morgan and Drew Smith, known as "The Genealogy Guys."
