Frank A. Domingoes Jr., 75, a retired Army major who was involved in the restoration of World War II jeeps, died of lung cancer Oct. 4 at his home in Leesburg. Maj. Domingoes was born in Newport, R.I., and joined the Army Corps of Engineers in 1941. In 1944, he landed in Normandy with the Allied invasion forces. That year, he was commissioned to second lieutenant while on the battlefield. He was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his service. He later served in Japan and, in 1951, became a captain and an instructor for the engineering school at Fort Belvoir. He became a major in 1958 and retired as the assistant branch chief of maintenance and repair at Fort Belvoir in 1961. Maj. Domingoes had been employed by the Army Materiel Command in Alexandria since 1961 and was a home improvement contractor. He also was involved in military vehicle restoration of jeeps, which he displayed in local car shows, winning a number of awards. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Isabel "Betty" Domingoes of Leesburg; three sons, Frank A. Domingoes III of St. Augustine, Fla., Michael Domingoes of Hamilton, Va., and Paul Domingoes of Leesburg; a daughter, Lynda Graham of Burke; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

June 14 "— C Company next took the range and it was fitting that their top rifle expert should be the first sergeant, Frank A. Domingoes, who tallied 194. A total of 54 other men, all of them recently inducted, qualified as experts – the first record of all the companies in the Battalion.

April 29 "— T/Sgt. Milton J. Taylor of B Company was promoted to first sergeant and became the fourth first sergeant in the battalion, the others being: Herbert L. Garman, H&S Company; Donald C. Evon, A Company, and Frank Domingoes, C Company. Five other promotions took effect this date.
