Hilery S. Newman, 86, of Hillsville, Va., passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007 at Waddell Nursing & Rehab Center. Mr. Newman was born in Wythe County, Va. to the late Garnett and Annie Mae Duncan Newman. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a POW during the war. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Delphia Newman; brothers, Paul, Buford and Bolen Newman; and a sister, Beulah Hudson. He is survived by three sisters-in-law, Ollie Newman of Austinville, Lucille Newman of Hillsville and Helen Newman of Mt. Airy, N.C.; and three nieces Pauline Gross and Judy Hill both of Mt. Airy, NC and Kim Cloud of Fancy Gap. Services on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel with Rev. Harvey Carrico. Burial in the Woodlawn Cemetery. Military Rites by the Hillsville V.F.W. Post 1115.
