Edward M. Shoemaker, 87, of Fitzgerald died Tuesday, August 16, at his residence. Funeral Friday, August 19, 2011 at Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, Georgia with the Rev. Chuck Taylor. Paulk Funeral Home. Mr. Shoemaker was born May 26, 1924 in Novinger, Missouri. A former P.O.W., he served in the United States Army for twenty years, having served in WW II, Korea and Vietnam, retiring as a Staff Sergeant. After his retirement he worked as a pipe fitter on off shore oil wells. Mr. Shoemaker was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church in Wilcox County and a member of the American Legion, Post 99. He is survived by his stepchildren: Ted (Bea) Tilson of Fitzgerald, JoAnn (James) Farley of Fayetteville, NC and Patricia (Clay) Parker of Saint Francisville, LA; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Johnson Shoemaker.
