Comments:
(1) It appears that Elizabeth was the second wife of James Cree as she is
not old enough to be mother of the older children of this family. It
appears to me, due to the large gap in the age of the children, that
Elizabeth was probably a 2nd wife and mother of George, James & Sarah. EDR
(2) Son Peter J. had apparently married about 1843 and was therefore not
included in his father's household in 1850. However, I have not yet
identified Peter J. Cree's family on the 1850 Census.
(3) Daniel Cree, brother of Peter J. Cree signed as one of the sureties
when Peter J. Cree was appointed as Administrator of James Cree's estate
in 1852.

b. Since Samuel Henry Nettles was a brother to Sylvester J. Nettles, the
fact that he named a son Sylvester Jesse Nettles seems to fit and support
the conclusion that Samuel Henry Nettles named one son Sylvester J [Jesse]
after his brother Sylvester J. Nettles.

Comment: The above family is listed in error as a black family. It is
puzzling that this family is enumerated twice by L. M. Davis; both listed
on Mims Beat and one listing as a white family and one (in error) as a
black family. There is no doubt that this is the same family, but the race
being shown as black is a census taker error.

Notes for Daniel J Cree
SOURCE: E-mail from Diana Ware to Peachie Knight dated 23 Feb 2006 -
Nancy Shows was dau of John Shows who moved his family to Caddo Parish
from Butler Co., Alabama sometime after the 1850 Census.
Daniel J. Cree married Nancy Shows in Caddo Parish [Louisiana] in 1855. I
know this from the marriage records...... Nancy had only one known child
with Daniel, a daughter named Mary Frances Cree who was born about 1859.
Then Nancy remarried in 1864. I do not know how Daniel died, if in the
Civil War or some other way, but it was before May 1864 when Nancy married
a Conrad Eckhardt in Caddo Parish..... In 1870 Mary Frances or "Fannie"
Cree, Daniel's daughter is listed in her mother and stepfather's household
as Eckhardt, rather than Cree. In 1877 Fannie married a Samuel R. Kent in
Caddo Parish and so is listed in Samuel's household in the 1880 Census.
Fannie and Sam had three children, Annie, Daniel and Catherine Kent....
Annie married Charles Morehead....

COMMENT: The 1910 Census indicates they had been married for 14 years;
however, due to the Birmingham, Alabama City Directories 1905-1908; it
appears that the 14 years is a census taker error. Perhaps it should be
married 14 months. These records indicate a marriage between 1908 and
1910.
