James Alexander Gass was born in Paris, KY November 24, 1833. He went to Texas in 1858 and was a member of Company G 6th Texas Calvary. After the War, he came to Pickens County setting in the Benevola Community. On January 17, 1867 he married Mary Jane Giles (who was Mary Ann Mobley) of Benevola. There was one stepdaughter, Mrs. Alice Duncan, mother of Dr. Wallace Duncan. The couple had two sons, David William Gass and Shep Gass. After his wife's death, he married Mrs. W. A. Johnson of the Raleigh Community on January 17, 1882. There were two stepdaughters, Mrs. W. Going and Mrs. Cliff Harkins. |
