Fowler Photo Album - Hilliard Judge Fowler's family

Hilliard Judge Fowler and sons
ca 1895

Captioned on back of original photograph by Mrs. Caroline Glenn Fowler (daughter-in-law of Leon). She wrote:

Standing (left to right): Wess, Ed, Claud, Joe
Seated (left to right): Bob, Judge (father), Leon, Clayton
Not in photo: Hugh, Judge Jr., Pearl, Julie, and little Minnie

Note: in our branch of the family, as in the photo caption, Hilliard Judge Fowler is called Judge. Thus the captioning.

The Fowler family farm, Bristol, TX
ca 1905

The back of the original mounted "Bristol Farm" photograph is captioned in the handwriting of my grandmother, Mrs. Caroline Glenn Fowler, who wrote:

  1. On the left side is Frank Deforiest Fowler. Son of Leon Fowler.
  2. Dovie May Fowler = brother Frank D. Fowler daughter of Leon Fowler.
  3. Mrs. Leon (Sue D.) Fowler. Mother of Frank & Dovie. Wife of Leon Fowler.
  4. A forth time pastor of the First Babtist Church of Bristol = their pastor, a friend.
  5. Mr. Bob Burk, a neighbor and relative of the Fowlers.
  6. Taylor Moreland, brother of Mrs. Sue D. Fowler, Leon Fowler's 1st and only wife.
  7. Judge Fowler, father of Leon Fowler, Grand Father of Frank + Dovie.
  8. Leon Fowler, Husband of Sue Fowler.

The Leon Fowler's home on the farm he with help built the house, barn, smoke house, and "out house".

Frank D. Fowler bought the Fowler farm before Mr. Fowler died and moved from Irving back to the farm and lived there 7 years after his Uncle Will Moreland sold out his General Merchandise business where Frank worked 20 yrs? or something. Then Frank + Carrie Fowler moved to Lancaster Texas into a house Frank built there and lived there 7 yrs. Then back to Irving in 1955 in new home where Frank D. dies Oct. 29, 1972. Carrie Fowler still living in the Irving home at age 83 yrs old and I still have a few more years to live here.

Preacher Hensley I think.

Ken's notes:

This photo shows the east side of the house. The porch for the north-facing front door can just be seen at the right.

A personal favorite memory is that this house was where I was introduced to chocolate pie by my grandmother.

The house was still standing and inhabited into the 1970s but was gone when I visited Bristol in the spring of 2002.
