Obiturary of Mrs. Mary (Cody) Foster

Mrs. Mary Foster was born on September 23, 1858, in Marion county, Iowa, the daughter of Austin and Elizabeth Cody, and passed from this life April 14, having attained the age of 85 years.

With the exception of six years spent in the Black Hills, her entire life was spent in Cherokee.

On September 5, 1877, she was united in marriage to Frank Foster, who preceded her in death 47 years ago last march. To this union were born five children: Gus F. of Calument, Minn., Chester of Staples, Minn., Mrs. Maude Kneen of Cherokee.

Two children, Don and Dessie, preceded her in death, Don having passed away eight years ago in April.

Mrs. Foster was compelled to lie an invalid for several years and during this time she was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Kneen.

Her hands were never idle and as long as strength and eyesight permitted she spent the long tire-some hours making beautiful pieces of fancy work for friends and loved ones.

Funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. Monday from Boothby Funeral home with Rev. John A. Farnham officiating. Burial was in Cedar cemetery. Pallbearers were Harold Rasmus, Arthur Rasmus, Raymond Gregg, Will Gregg, Leslie Gregg and Francis Gregg.
