My mother was Evah (you spell it Eva which is incorrect) May Holloway in the reference below, born November 19, 1911 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. My Father was John Carl Holloway. (Just a total coincidence they had the same last name when they married. They were not related. They were married in Spokane, Washington in December 1932. I was born in California in December 1933. My mother Evah May Thomas Holloway died in Long Beach California 1n 1966. My Father John Carl Holloway died in Portland, Oregon in 1976. Parr, born Warrington in about 1858, emigrated to Australia in the 1880's. He worked as a Sawyer around Toowoomba in Queensland, married there, went to Western Australia sleeper cutting for the Trans Continental Railway, and then went back to Toowoomba.
I particularly liked the touch of having a Memorial Roll as part of your site. At present I am working on a similar setup with my family files. Like you, my family and ancestry has made a considerable donation to peace. Thankfully, so far, none of my descendants has served. Maybe we will have an outbreak of peace one day.

The Knibbs that are my nearest relatives tell a great story - with thanks to your documentation, it's superb, and has filled in a lot of gaps. I'm stuck on the Hoskins side now, and have only managed to trace my 2nd great grandfather Charles Hoskins 1817-1868 but that's as far as any clear info goes! So I'll keep on researching - in hope. Possibly Comments: I have just found a printout from way back in Mar, when I wasn't much engaged in family tree matters. It shows that the 1851 census had a William Knibbs age 36 Town Crier & Shoemaker, of 18 Best Lane All Saints Canterbury. The rest of his family were Oakenfulls - wife Mary and six children. Also present was a Joseph Pond who was married to William Oakenfull's sister Caroline. In the 1861 census William changed to an Oakenfull but retained all the attributes of the 1851 William. When I looked at the 1851 census many months later, having forgotten the printout, that William now Oakenfull, at the same address. Any ideas what is the situation? I would add that my family have been connected with the boot and shoe trade for centuries.

This is my maternal grandmothers maiden name. Maud Oman born 1884 in Bermondsey. Her father John William Oman was born 1853 in Newcastle Northumberland. Her grandfather Thomas Oman born abt 1824 in Manchester died 1890 in Bermondsey. It is quite incredible how people moved around in those days. I think so, Yes :D Comments: My surname may be Lloyd-Knibbs, but I'm from the first generation to have it (my Mum's maiden name was Lloyd, my dad's surname Knibbs, they joined them after their marriage.) My nickname is still 'Knibbsy', so when we were looking each other up on Google, my friend just put 'Knibbs'.
As I said, the names been passed down on my father's side, and apparently I'm not the first in the line to have 'Knibbs'/'Knibbsy' as a nickname. I've never met anyone outside the family with the surname, but was led to believe it was possibly of Welsh origin before the family moved to England.
As far as I know, the family has been in South East England (I live in Milton Keynes with my parents and siblings, my paternal grandfather in St. Neots, other members of my father's family around Stratford-upon-Avon) for as long as anyone can remember.
Seeing this website has made me think we must fit into the web somewhere, since it's such an uncommon surname. If anyone thinks they could link into my family they contact me (or if they know Knibbses from the same general area.)
