OBITUARY: Doris Mae Sanders Campbell

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – Doris Mae Sanders Campbell, age 100, formerly of Richmond, died peacefully Saturday, February 27, 2016, in hospice care at her home in Brooksville, Florida, surrounded by her loving family. Born May 25, 1915, in Waynesburg, Kentucky, to Henry Allen and Virginia Ann Smith Sanders, Doris was the second of ten children. She learned early in life to handle varied responsibilities while extending love in a large family. Her family moved to Indiana when she was nine months old. She was a long-time resident of Richmond and worked many years at Belden, before moving with her family to the Fort Myers, Florida, area in 1959. Doris worked 14 years as the Assistant Food Service Director and Administrative Assistant at the Sunland Training Center in Fort Myers. She moved to Lakeland, Florida, in 1978. Doris was a member of Victory Assembly of God in Lakeland, attended First Assembly of God in Fort Myers, and had been a member of the First Assembly of God in Richmond before moving to Florida. She filled many positions in service to her church. Doris was most notably known as an accomplished Sunday School teacher where her love of the Word of God and the children she taught was demonstrated each time she spoke. After retirement, Doris and her husband traveled across America visiting many sights in our great country. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and taking care of her family. With declining health, she split her time between her daughter in Richmond, son in Lakeland, Florida, and son in Brooksville, Florida, where she remained until her death. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Lee Everman of Richmond; son, Marvin E. (Betty) Campbell Jr. of Brooksville, Florida; daughter-in-law, Rev. Helen Campbell of Lakeland, Florida; step-daughter-in-law, Linda Campbell of Indianapolis, Indiana; sister, Patricia Helton of Richmond; two brothers, Arthur James Sanders of Fairfax Station, Virginia, and John W. Sanders of Evansville, Indiana; seven grandchildren, James Thompson Jr., David Thompson, Roscoe Thompson, Michael Campbell Jr., Kenneth Campbell, David Campbell, and Steven Campbell; step-granddaughter, Debbie Rodandello; 19 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; five great-great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 61 years, Marvin Earnest Campbell Sr. on November 21, 2004; son, Michael Campbell who died in 2015; grandson, Robert Allen Campbell who died in 1997; step-son, James Lee Campbell; son-in-law, Richard Everman; parents; sisters, Naomi Reid, Eileen Rausch, and Leotha Bowling; brothers, Charles Sanders, Allen Sanders Jr., and William Sanders; and brother-in-law, Ray Helton. Visitation for Doris Mae Sanders Campbell will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. A celebration of Doris’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Rev. Helen Campbell officiating.
