Knight, James C., p.o. Lakeville, jeweler and assessor, 69 acres, born Genesco 1838; wife Almira E. Byrant, born 1840, married January 11, 1871; children one, Willie B., born 1871.

OBITUARY: Oswego Daily Palladium, Thursday, November 21, 1920
James C. Knight, of Syracuse, fell dead while visiting at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Frank Baumgardner, yesterday afternoon. He had been suffering from heart disease for a year.

Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Thursday, April 26, 1900
Death of James Knight
James Knight died at his residence near the village of Lakeville yesterday morning at 4 o’clock. He had been in poor heath for some months, as a result of heart trouble, and this, together with a severe attack of pleura-pneumonia, caused his death. Mr. Knight was born on the farm where he died in June, 1838. Two sisters only survive, Mrs. Delia Dieffenbacher and Mrs. Ann Heath, both of whom have spent their entire lives in the town. James Knight married Emma Myra Bryant in 1871. Three children were born to them of whom only one, William, survives. Mrs. Knight died in 1876. About 1894 Mr. Knight united with the Genesco First Church at Lakeville, and was elected an elder to take the place of his deceased brother, Newell, who had served as an elder for nearly forty years. He was also a trustee of the church and a teacher in the Sunday-school. He was a faithful Christian man, and loved by all who knew him.

Search for Knight’s Body
Watchers Confident of Finding the Remains Today
Old sailors and other marine men predict that the body of S. Fred Knight will be washed ashore today at some point between San Pedro and San Juan. This is the fourteenth day since Mr. Knight was washed from the deck of the steamer Warrior and drowned. The current runs south, tending toward the east between the two points named, and it matters not how much wind was blowing on the surface, a body ten or more feet below would be carried along with the current. The Wilimington Transportation company has had a tug out nearly every day since the drowning, cruising up and down along the coast in search for Knight’s body. The company will send the boat out again today with orders to keep an exceptionally sharp look out for the remains and signals from the shore. Harry Knight, brother of the deceased, has kept watchers along the shore both north and south from San Pedro for a week past. He says that talks had with mariners and those versed in the currents and moods of the Pacific cause him to feel confident that his brother’s body will be found today. Superintendent Oster of the Salt Lake road has given every assistance to the bereaved family in their efforts to recover the remains. Knight was a conductor on that road and was to have taken one of the new eastern line trains as soon as the road was completed to Pomona.

Los Angeles Herald, Volume XXIX, Number 241, 30 May 1902
For several days the boats of the Wilmington Transportation company have been watching the beaches and the waters of the outer harbor in an attempt to find the body of F. S. Knight, a conductor of the Salt Lake road, who was lost from the steamer Warrior on the return trip Catalina Island during the storm of Sunday, May 13. So far their attempts have been unsuccessful. From opinions expressed by fishermen, who make a study of the currents, the body of Knight, if recovered at all, will be found on Clemente island or a considerable distance down the coast.
