Aday Jr., Fullerton, Calif., and Kenneth Aday, Lake City, Fla. One son, Barry W. Hoover, and a granddaughter preceded her in death. Mrs. Hoover was a member of the Raven Run Church of the Brethren, Saxton R.D. During her life, she was primarily a homemaker.

Miss Geraldine Mable Aday, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy W. Aday of 427-D Eagle Avenue, Alameda, California, became the bride of Seaman First Class John Andrew Hoover, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Hoover of Saxton R. D., on Tuesday evening. March 19, 1946, at seven-thirty o’clock. The ceremony was performed at the home of the Rev. Edgeworth in Alameda. The bride was attractively attired in an aqua suit and she had a corsage of white roses. She chose as her matron of honor her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roy Aday, Jr., Los Angeles, California. Mrs. Aday chose for the occasion a pink satin dress and a gardenia corsage. The bride’s brother, Mr. Roy Aday, Jr., Los Angeles was the best man. He was recently discharged from the Navy. Following the wedding a reception was held at Club Shalimar in Alameda. The newlyweds then enjoyed a trip to Berkeley, California. Seaman Hoover has served for thirty-one months in the Navy, twenty months of that time being spent overseas on the aircraft carrier, USS Franklin. He was on board the ship the morning of March 19, 1945, when it was bombed. He is expecting to receive his discharge today at the Naval Air station in Alameda. After he is discharged he and his bride will return to his home and take up housekeeping in the near future.

FRIONA - Percy Parsons, 81, died Sunday, May 30, 2010.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Friona United Methodist Church in Friona with the Rev. Ron Colwell, minister, officiating. Graveside services will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in Terrace Cemetery in Post with the Rev. Bobby McMillin of Lubbock officiating. Arrangements are by Blackwell Funeral Home in Friona. He died early Sunday morning, May 30, 2010, at Parmer Medical Center in Friona. He was born Aug. 9, 1928, in Post to DeWitt and Alice Conner Parsons. He graduated from Post High School and Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. He began his career in funeral service in 1946, in Brownfield. He married Margaret Aday on Feb. 13, 1949, in Muleshoe. After completing mortuary college, he, Marvin and Victor Hudman established Hudman Funeral Home in Post.
In 1958, he sold his interest in the home and moved to Olton, where he established Parsons Funeral Home. He also owned funeral homes in Dimmitt and was a partner in funeral homes in Earth, Friona, Stephenville and Odessa. In Post, he served on the administrative board of the Methodist Church; helped organize the Jaycees and served as secretary, treasurer, vice president and president; helped organize the United Way; and was a member of the volunteer fire department. In Friona, he served on the administrative board of the Methodist church and was chairman of the board of trustees; was president of the Chamber of Commerce; chairman of the steering committee to build a 60-bed nursing home and upon completion served as first chairman of the board of Prairie Acres Nursing Home; and was director and past president of the Senior Citizens Organization and the Evening Lions Club. In Dimmitt, he served as chairman of the administrative board of the Methodist church and member of the board of trustees; was a member of the Chamber of Commerce; and was chairman of the Road to Recovery program of the American Cancer Society. Professionally, he had been a licensed funeral director since 1950; a member of the Texas Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors Association and the Panhandle Funeral Directors Association, where he served every office on two separate occasions; West Texas Funeral Directors Association, where he was presented a lifetime membership in 1983 and served two different two-year terms as a director of the Texas Funeral Directors Association; received the Outstanding Funeral Director of the Panhandle region in 1982 and again in 2006; served as trustee of the Texas Funeral Directors Association's group benefit trust from 1970 through 1987; served on the TFDA pre-need trust from 1982 to 1992; and was appointed by Gov. Bill Clements to the Texas Funeral Service Commission in 1987 and served until 1993. As a member of the commission he served as the chairman of the Consumer and Industry Relations Committee, Legislative Committee, and vice chairman of the examination committee, served as chairman of the commission for two years, acting chairman one year, and chairman of the Complaint Review Committee from August 1991 until his replacement was appointed. He was named Friona's Man of the Year in 2006 and Texas Funeral Director's Association Funeral Director of the Year in 2007. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Vera Cox and Jewel Parsons; and a brother, Conner Parsons. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Parsons and wife J Carol of Spicewood and Dale Parsons and wife Amal of Dallas; a daughter, Rhonda Murphree and husband Jim of Friona; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to Friona United Methodist Church, 301 E. Eighth, Friona, TX 79035; American Cancer Society, 3915 S. Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109; or Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001.

PINELLAS PARK -- Some young swimmers are looking for a little competition this summer.
Six girls tried out Tuesday for Swimteam Pinellas Park, a new competitive swimming squad started by the city's recreation department. There were just enough girls to fill the lanes of the city's pool, and organizers are hoping for a dozen or more kids to get the team afloat. Coaches Cathy Cady and Laura Gervasi were impressed with the abilities of the girls who showed for the team's first tryout. "Not bad, not bad. I thought I was going to have to work on this," Gervasi said while watching the girls do the breast stroke from one end of the pool to the other. "They're about where they need to be. They're in really good form." The coaches had the girls swim laps in the pool using different strokes to evaluate their skills and even had them do some simple diving exercises during the 90-minute session. Sisters Mary and Michelle Manchess tried out for the team. Fifteen-year-old Michelle said she wants to be part of the team for exercise and to have fun in the water. "This is Florida, you know, like water. It's really fun," she said. Boys and girls of all ages who have had Red Cross swimming instruction and who are proficient in a few strokes -- front crawl, back crawl and breast stroke -- are welcome to try out for the team. Kids will be divided into beginning, intermediate and advanced groups. Swimmers will race against each other at three weekend meets this summer at the Skyview Municipal Pool on 54th Way while the city builds its program to compete against other cities' swimming teams in the future, said pool manager Holly Aday. Aday said parents and kids have asked for a competitive swimming team for years, but her staff couldn't find the time. This year, she said, she was able to organize schedules to squeeze in the swimming team. "We're just real excited to have the opportunity to try it out and give kids other things to do," she said. Mary and Michelle's mother, Jackie, said she was especially thankful they will have an organized activity to keep her busy this summer.
"I was looking for something for her to do in the summer, so this solves it," she said. "She and her sister can walk here. It's exercise and fun and very inexpensive. I love it." Aday said if the program is a success she would like to budget for portable bleachers, starting blocks and a timing system. But for now, parents will have to help keep swimmers' times with stopwatches, she said. And parents with coaching experience are welcome to lend a hand. Participants must attend at least three practice sessions a week.

Apparently, when that happened, one packed his bags and hit the road. It must have been interesting trying to find a place to come in out of the cold. Next records for Ebenezer appear in Milton, a community south of Boston. Ebenezer must have become the first of the rambling Knights.
