Plan Services For Brothers Who Lost Lives In Accident
William Dye, Rigdon, and Albert Dye, Fowlerton, Are Electrocuted Tuesday
Well Known Men Give Lives In Effort To Save Son And Nephew
Current Gets in Fatal Work When Drilling Outfit Comes in Contact With Wires
Efforts to save Paul W. Dye, 22, from electrocution Tuesday morning brought instant death to his father, William Dye, 55, of Rigdon, and an uncle, Albert Dye, 65 of Fowlerton, when the derrick of a well drilling outfit which the men were raising preparatory to working on the town pump in Fowlerton came in contact with high tension wires. Funeral services for William Dye will be held at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon at the Rigdon Methodist church with Rev. Stephenson and Rev. Stanton in charge. Services for Albert Dye will be held at the Fowlerton Methodist church at 2 o’clock this (Thursday) afternoon. According to witnesses, young Dye was on the truck of the drilling outfit holding the steel sand line while the older men were raising the derrick. As the tower went up a metal pulley on its top came in contact with the power lines and a charge of 11,000 volts of electricity crossed through the youth’s body. William Dye, seeing his son’s predicament, leaped forward and endeavored to free Paul from the current. He  was killed instantly, Albert Dye then attempted to release his brother and nephew from the grip of the electricity and was successful but at the cost of his own life. Paul Dye, although frightfully burned is said to have a chance to recover. He was rushed to the hospital in Marion in the Parrill and Lewis ambulance summoned from this city. Yesterday he was reported to resting as easily as could be expected. An emergency call to Fairmount resulted in having the current shut off until the well derrick could be removed from the wires. Carl Miller, safety director of the Indiana General Service company, sped to the scene of the tragedy and endeavored to revive Albert Dye by means of artificial respiration. However, after more than an hour’s worth the Fowlerton man was pronounced dead. Both the brothers were widely known through Southern Grant county. William Dye, owner of the drilling outfit, had contracted for drilling throughout this community for many years. He leaves the widow, a daughter, Ella Mae Dye, who was a member of the 1932 Fairmount high school graduating class, and the son, Paul. The body was taken to the Hunt mortuary here. Albert Dye is survived by the widow, a son, Hovey Dye, of Gary, and two daughters, Mrs. Florence Royal, Hartford City, and Mrs. Mattie Cline, Pittsburg. His body was removed to the Frank funeral parlors at Gas City. Paul Dye was married about a year ago to Dorothy Sheedy. Both are graduates of Fairmont High school. Investigation of the tragedy was made Tuesday morning by Coroner O. L. Stout, of Upland. He is expected to return a verdict of accidental death.
