George Knight was the son of Charles and Susannah Knight. Susannah was the daughter of William Williams and Penelope Richardson. Penelope was the daughter of Benjamin Richardson (b. 1740, probably in Tyrrell Co, North Carolina � died in Bulloch Co. in 1799) and his wife Sarah Mizell 30 Sept 1767 in Tyrrell Co., NC (b. about 1750 in North Carolina).

George's wife Martha was the daughter of Kinza Johnson (1801-1879) and Mary Jane Richardson (1809-1854).

According to a pamplet from the 1990 Washington Parish Fair, Mary Jane was the daughter of Benjamin Richardson. In 1826 Kinza Johnson and his wife, Mary Jane Richardson (1809-1854) moved from their home on the Benjamin Richardson Headright east of Enon, La. to Rankin County, Miss. located about halfway between Holmesville and McComb.

After the death of his wife Mary Jane, Dec. 31, 1854, Kinza Johnson returned to Washington Parish purchasing property situated where the present community of Enon is located. However, shortly thereafter he sold this property to George Knight and bought property from James Mizell located approximately two miles south of the Enon Community and it was on this property that he built a cabin in the mid 1800's. This cabin is now located in the Miles Branch Settlement in Franklinton, LA.


NOTE: The gentlewomen of New Orleans reacted violently to the military occupation of their city by Union troops. Many of them displayed their defiance by wearing emblems on their clothing showing support for the Confederacy. Both men and woman in other parts of the country also wore cockade, or rosettes, in support of the confederates. It appears that Martha Knight is wearing such an emblem in the picture above. It appears to be the Rebel flag with the traditional ribbons. The picture below is a picture of someone wearing an emblem in support of the Confederates with the Star of David.
